Palaver

Palaver is UNCW’s online interdisciplinary journal. They are currently accepting submissions for their May journal, but they do accept submissions year round. Both creative and academic submissions are accepted and they do prefer works of prose to be limited to no more than 30 pages submitted at a time. You may only submit one work at a time and they request that you wait until they respond about your first submission to consider sending off your second piece. They do not accept previously published work, but simultaneous submissions are allowed as long as they are informed as soon as your work is offered to be published elsewhere. Please do not provide identifying information on the document you submit as they do prefer to read submissions blind. The only identifying information for your work should appear on your submittable form. Remember, there’s no pressure to submit because they do accept work year round, but if you want to make it into the May issue, sending sooner might be better than later!

The Saturday Evening Post

The Saturday Evening Post has been around for nearly three centuries and has published some of the biggest names in American literature (Ray Bradbury, F. Scott Fitzgerald, William Faulkner, Kurt Vonnegut among many others) and is currently holding their 5th annual Great American Fiction Contest for 2017. You can submit 1,500-5,000 words of your best fiction in any genre for the chance to win $500. The winning story and its runners-up will be published in The Saturday Evening Post for the January/February 2017 edition. There is a $10 entry fee and the deadline for submissions is July 1, 2016.
