Permafrost Magazine

Permafrost Magazine is currently accepting submissions until Nov. 30 for their upcoming print issue. They are looking for sickly, the sweet, but not the sickly sweet. They want ugly or beautiful, but not both. They’re interested in poetry, fiction, nonfiction, visual art and everything in between.

They’re also taking submissions for two contests they are hosting. One is the Permafrost Nonfiction Book Prize in which the winner will receive $1000 and publication with the University of Alaska Press. They are looking for manuscripts at least 150 pages and includes essay collections, memoirs, travelogues, personal narratives, nature writing and literary journalism. The deadline for submissions is Dec. 1.  There is a $20 entry fee.

The other contest taking submissions is the New Alchemy Contest. They want work that experiments with language, with plot, with format and with medium. They want to see daring projects, collaborations, darlings that don’t fit anywhere else. The winner will receive $500 and publication with Permafrost and a spot as a featured author on their website. The contest closes on Jan. 15, 2016 and all contestants will receive a subscription to Permafrost with their $15 entry fee.
