Paste Magazine: Editorial interns, design interns, social-media/marketing intern

Deadline: Feb. 27 for Summer 2015 internships (May 25 – Aug 21 or as school schedule allows)

Do you have dreams of an internship where, in addition to garnering all that “real world experience” (and boy is there ever some of that), you get to wear all your band t-shirts to work, and the staff meetings are fun, and the mail runs yield hundreds of new CDs each week, and no Xerox or espresso machine experience is required because everyone in the office makes their own copies and coffee? Does this office happen to be housed in a former art gallery down the street from the Waffle House Museum in Decatur, Ga., convenient to the MARTA rail line and all the music, film, food, and culture that Atlanta has to offer? Is everyone wearing headphones and staring intently at their MacBooks, perhaps working hard— or perhaps just about to totally LOL at the latest YouTube video making its rounds about the office?

If so, you might want to consider doing something about it. Like, say, applying for an internship at Paste. It’s everything you’ve been dreaming of (and more). And you’re in luck—we’re currently taking applications for our upcoming terms. Please click here for some basic info, answers to frequently asked question and application instructions.

Minority Science Writers Internship

Deadline: March 1

The AAAS Pitts Family Foundation Minority Science Writers Internship is for undergraduates who are interested in journalism as a career and who want to learn about science writing. In addition to improving their skills, the program seeks to make a dent in the demographics of the profession: Although science is a global activity, the journalists who cover it don’t reflect that diversity.

Funded by the Pitts Family Foundation, the internship takes place each summer at the Washington, D.C. headquarters of AAAS’s Science magazine, the largest interdisciplinary journal in the world. Interns spend ten weeks at Science under the guidance of award-winning reporters and editors practicing what science writers do for a living. They have a chance to meet leading scientists, attend conferences and hearings, and cover breaking news. Interns are expected to contribute to all facets of the news operation, including writing bylined articles for the print magazine and online news service, engaging in social media, and contributing to other news products.

Interns receive a weekly stipend as well as the cost of a round-trip ticket to and from Washington, D.C. The internship runs from early June to mid-August. This year’s application deadline is March 1, 2015. To be eligible, applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate academic program at the time they submit their application. Click here for details.
