aTVfest Recap

As usual, this year’s aTVfest was full of wonderful master classes, screenings, and panels. It was an amazing three days—from hearing industry experts discuss the future of television to seeing our favorite television shows on the big screen at SCADShow. Also, as usual, this year’s aTVfest had much to offer emerging writers.

SCAD’s writing students heard from a wide range of industry professionals including:

Jeff Greenberg, television literary agent at the Gersh Agency

Geoff Barbanell, television comedy writer

Itai Grunfeld, television comedy writer

Marc Malkin, senior writer and editor at E! Entertainment

Jefferson Graham, technology columnist at USA Today

Emma Brown, senior online editor at Interview Magazine

Damian Holbrook, senior writer at TV Guide Magazine

Liz Miller, TV editor at IndieWire

Dade Hayes, executive editor at Broadcasting & Cable

Additionally, aTVfest included a panel devoted to Nickelodeon’s Talent Development Program, a fantastic program designed to bring new writing talent to Nickelodeon each year.

Finally, SCAD Atlanta’s writing students (along with film and performing arts students) participated in a master class with Mindy Kaling and her entire team of writers. It’s safe to say that SCAD students loved hearing from Mindy, and it looks like Mindy enjoyed her time here as well. On Saturday, she tweeted: “I love Atlanta. Thanks #atvfest and @SCADdotedu for hosting us. We are having the best time sharing stories and meeting students.”
