Savannah graduate student Stephen Drum wrote two more pieces for the Huffington Post about Colt models: The Men of Colt Studios: Telling Sad Stories of Hooking Up With Kings and A Colt Man, Not a Porn Star.

Savannah undergraduate writing students Astoria Jellett and Shelby Chikazawa successfully funded their zine SAMT SENIT using Kickstarter. The zine will explore the issues and ideas of the Millennial Generation.

Gotham Writers’ Workshop credits Savannah graduate student Nancy Peck with originating the idea for a special contest, “91-word Memoir Writing Contest” in honor of Peck’s aunt, Norma Crosier. “We had 764 entries, and so many of them were of such high quality that we not only picked a winner to receive a free class in Norma’s honor, we also picked a first runner-up, and eight – count ‘em eight! – finalists!,” wrote one of the contest administrators.

Savannah undergraduate student Eric Ramirez writes dating stories for College Magazine.

District seeks applications for editor-in-chief
The SCAD Savannah Student Media Center is seeking applicants for the position of editor-in-chief of District for a one-year term beginning on the first day of spring quarter 2013, and ending on the last day of winter quarter 2014. Deadline to submit completed applications is 11:59 p.m. Feb. 1, and qualified students will be interviewed in mid-February. The editor-in-chief position carries a monthly stipend, and applicants must be currently enrolled students at SCAD Savannah. Visit the website for more information.

The SCAD Writers’ Studio announces first student writing contest
The SCAD Writers’ Studio is seeking entries from SCAD Savannah students in the contest. Entries must:

  • Begin with the line, “This was a bad time to laugh.”
  • Be double-spaced, in 12-point font.
  • Be between 600 and 750 words.

Email entries by March 1, 2012. Put only the title on the entry. No identifying information should be on the story itself. Include student ID and the title of the story in the body of the email. First prize is a $200 Visa gift card.

Submit poetry to national contest
The National Amateur Poetry Competition is accepting entries from new and previously unpublished poets. All qualifying poets will receive an editorial comment from a qualified editor. Poems must be 26 lines or less (strictly enforced) and can be written on any subject, in any style. It is free to enter; more than $25,000 in prizes to be awarded. Mail poem by Jan. 31 to:
