This lively celebration of acclaimed author and Savannah native Flannery O’Connor’s 90th birthday will offer family fun, live music and more. Attendees are invited to walk in the parade, bring handmade signs, and sing along. Live music throughout the event will be provided by a cavalcade of singer songwriters and musicians from some of Savannah’s finest local bands. Music for the parade will be played by an all-star line up of the Sweet Thunder Strolling Band.
Costumes inspired by Flannery O’Connor characters, settings, or the author’s life are encouraged but optional. The parade launches around:
Lafayette Square
Sunday, March 29

Free and open to the public.
All Writers Are Local Somewhere
The Book Lady Bookstore’s beloved Local Author Day is back. It will be held in Lafayette Square in concert with all the other fun events. Come meet your favorite authors and SCAD Professors of Writing. This is the one event in Savannah that embraces all of our local & regional authors, without whom we would not know where we live. (Writers who are interested in having a table can still contact Joni Saxon-Giusti.)
Everything That Rises Must Converge
Live music, great art, games, crafts, chicken* bingo, and literature! Gorillas, tramps, farmers, and clergy! All converging in one wonderful afternoon. Vintage costumery at the Civvies table, and face-painting with the girls of St. Vincent’s Academy. Make your own parade sign or Spin Art with ArtRise. Refreshments from the Sentient Bean. And more. Birthday cake to immediately follow the parade.
