Taught by visiting writer Richard Babcock
Babcock served as editor-in-chief of Chicago magazine and editor at New York magazine. He is the author of the best-selling Kindle Singles stories “My Wife’s Story” and “Ah, Rat.” “Are You Happy Now?” is Babcock’s third novel, after “Martha Calhoun” (1988) and “Bow’s Boy” (2002).

In addition to writing for publications such as Vanity Fair, Town & Country, Smithsonian, The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, Gioia Diliberto is the author of the biographies “Paris Without End,” “A Useful Woman: The Early Life of Jane Addams” and “Debutante: The Story of Brenda Frazier,” and the critically acclaimed historical novels “I Am Madame X” and “The Collection.”
Art of the Sentence WRIT 707 (CRN 22645) MW at 11 a.m.

Students in the course will collaborate with students in the motion media department for an
exciting project: projections onto the Samitaur Tower in Los Angeles. Writing students will write aphorisms, epigrams, concrete poems, text-visual montages, fake ads, etc. that the motion media students will then make into motion graphics.
Bristol Short Story Prize is taking submissions
2015 Bristol Short Story Prize is open to all published and unpublished, non-UK and UK based writers over 16 years of age. Stories can be on any theme or subject and entry can be made online via the website or by post. Entries must be previously unpublished with a maximum length of 4,000 words (There is no minimum). The entry fee is £8 per story (about $13 USD). The closing date for entries is midnight (BST) April 30,2015.
Prizes:
First: £1000 (about $1500 USD) plus £150 Waterstone’s gift card (usable online worldwide)
Second: £700 (about $1050 USD) plus £100 Waterstone’s gift card
Third: £400 (about $620 USD) plus £100 Waterstone’s gift card
17 further prizes of £100 (about $155 USD) will be presented to the writers whose stories appear on the shortlist. All 20 shortlisted writers will have their stories published in the Bristol Short
Story Prize Anthology Volume 8.
The 20 shortlisted writers will be invited to an awards ceremony
in Bristol in October 2015 when the winners will be announced and the anthology launched.
Prizes will be sent to any writer unable to attend the awards ceremony.

Sanjida O’Connell (writer and TV presenter) and Nikesh Shukla (author, performer and journalist)

Columbia: A Journal of Literature & Art seeking submissions
Columbia: A Journal of Literature & Art is now accepting original work in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry for its 2015 Writing Competition. One winner from each genre will receive a $500 cash prize and print publication in Issue 53, due out this spring.
