Deep Seeks Writing Interns for Fall Fellowships
April 6, 2020 | Leave a Comment
Deep Center is on the hunt for Fall SCAD Writing Interns to volunteer to lead weekly writing workshops within Savannah’s public schools. Deep’s Writing Fellows are mentors, working in pairs to guide our fearless middle schoolers through an 11-week writing curriculum. With their support, our young people explore the ins and outs of creative writing, weave their own narratives, and achieve publication in Deep’s anthologies. Writing Fellows are assigned to a particular school for the duration of their fellowship, giving them the opportunity to form meaningful and lasting bonds with the youth and the faculty. They give one-on-one attention to each of the 14 writers in their workshop, and foster a space where censorship and judgment are left at the door. The relationships formed between Writing Fellow and young author are transformational: youth often find themselves writing for the first time about difficult or scary topics, or finding the courage to share their passion projects with a wider audience.
