Last Call for Poetry Contest

Breakwater Review, an online literary journal run by University of Massachusetts Boston MFA students, is seeking submissions to the Fall 2017 Peseroff Prize Poetry Contest. Both current students and alumni may enter. Up to three poems are permitted. The winning poem will recieve a $1,000 prize and publication in our journal.

Entry fee is $10.  Read the contest guidelines and enter using the Submittable page.

Literary Awards seeks submissions

New Letters Literary Awards is now accepting original fiction, essay, and poetry. Winners each receive a $1,500 cash prize and publication in New Letters. All entries are consider for publication in the magazine.

Entry fee is $20.

The Feminist Press is currently seeking manuscripts from debut authors

Feminist Press is accepting submissions for the Louise Meriwether First Book Prize.

The prize was founded in 2016 to honor the legacy of author Louise Meriwether by publishing a debut work by a woman or nonbinary author of color. The prize is granted to a manuscript that follows in the tradition of Meriwether’s Daddy Was a Number Runner, one of the first contemporary American novels featuring a young black girl as the protagonist. The prize continues this legacy of telling much-needed stories that shift culture and inspire new writers.

Students and recent grads may submit complete manuscripts to our panel of judges. One winner will be awarded a $5,000 advance and a contract to publish their book with the Feminist Press in spring 2019.

Uno Press Publishing Lab Prize accepting manuscripts

The University of New Orleans Press is hosting the third annual UNO Press Publishing Lab Prize. Students are encouraged to submit full-length fiction manuscripts, either novels or short story collections. The selected author will receive $1,000 advance on royalties and a contract to publish with UNO Press. The work does not have to be regionally focused and there is no limit on word count or subject.

John D’Agata will judge The Deborah Tall Lyric Essay Book Prize

Students should submit a lyric essay that encompasses cross-genre work and hybrid forms. The work should range from 48 to 120 pages in length. The winner will receive $2,000, a book publication, and guest read at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.

5280 Magazine seeks an editorial assistant

The ideal candidate should be a creative, sophisticated, collaborative, and organized editor, who has a passion for magazine making and a broad editorial skill set.

The editorial assistant will be responsible for editing and managing 5280’s Calendar section, managing the magazine’s editorial internship program, overseeing the magazine’s research/fact checking department, fact checking, assisting editors with research and of course, writing for all sections of the magazine.

Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in journalism is a plus. Previous magazine experience preferred. Previous magazine internships required.
