First Up at Ivy Hall: Ira Sukrungruang
August 26, 2014 | Leave a Comment
We’ll be welcoming some fantastic writers to SCAD Atlanta this fall.
First up is Ira Sukrungruang. Mr. Sukrungruang is the author of Talk Thai: The Adventures of Buddhist Boy, which received some wonderful reviews, including this one from Booklist: “Born into a newly arrived Thai immigrant family in a Chicago suburb in 1968, Ira tries to be white and normal, and his memoir, hilarious and painful, captures the universal appeal of the immigrant story of a kid desperate to fit in, but it also gives readers the vivid particulars about morphing from a comic-book nerd to an overweight but love-hungry romantic—but one who, true to his nerdy roots, watches porn videos with his equally nerdy friends, white and Thai.”
Mr. Sukrungruang is also the author of a collection of poetry (In Thailand It Is Night) and is the editor of What Are you Looking At? The First Fat Fiction Anthology.
On Friday, September 26th, he’ll be reading from his latest book, Southside Buddhist. The reading, which is free and open to the public, starts at 6:30 and will take place at Ivy Hall. A book signing will follow. For more information, please email Catherine Ramsdell.
