Savannah graduate student Allison Bennett Dyche, who is also assistant director of Student Media at SCAD, will intern at WJCL/WTGS in the fall. Magdalena Bresson, 2012 alumna, also is interning at WJCL/WTGS in the sports department.
Atlanta graduate student T.J. Gordon will intern at Creative Loafing during fall quarter.
Atlanta graduate student Jennifer Jefferson earned an internship for the fall at Vogue.
Savannah undergraduate student Astoria Jellett is interning as a grant writer at Desotorow Gallery and also is a Deep Writing Fellow.
The Association of Writers and Writing Programs accepted a panel presentation proposed by Savannah professor James Lough, Ph.D., and department chair Beth Concepción, Ph.D. The pair will present the panel, titled “The Writing Program of the Future,” during the AWP’s annual conference in Boston March 6-9, 2013.
Gotham Writers’ Workshop credits Savannah graduate student Nancy Peck with originating the idea for a special contest, “91-word Memoir Writing Contest” in honor of Peck’s aunt, Norma Crosier. Random House retweeted the contest info to its 300,000+ followers.
Guernica magazine and The Rumpus published pieces by Savannah graduate student Chantel Tattoli. The Guernica article, “Making Faces,” is about a pair of South Carolina potters. The Rumpus piece, “Inner Space,” is about the Florida Space Coast. Tattoli is interning with journalist and author Dana Thomas during fall quarter. The Doctor T.J. Eckleberg Review also published Tattoli’s piece “Hemline of Condoms.”
Savannah professor Rob Walker co-edited “Significant Objects: 100 Extraordinary Stories About Ordinary Things,” which was published by Fantagraphics in July 2012. The Hypothetical Development Organization, a public art project in New Orleans that he co-founded, is included in the official U.S. exhibition at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2012. Also, The NYT Magazine published his pieces “Freaks, Geeks, and Microsoft” on June 3 and “On YouTube, amateur is the new pro” on July 1. Walker also published an essay, “Break Me,” in the Summer/Fall issue of Studio Potter magazine.
Graduate student Allison Wright will intern at Atlanta nonprofit WonderRoot in the fall.
Savannah undergraduate student Mariel Zayas-Bazan recently interned with Inked magazine in New York City, where she published two cover articles.
