Storefronts are the first thing you see. It might even be the first time you have seen that brand, and your first impression of them is their storefront. It’s like when you walk into a mall for the first time. Which store do you choose to go into first and why? Because the logo, visuals, or even the colors caught your attention. You couldn’t help but think, “That store looks so cool! I have to see what’s inside.” Of course luxury brands have free standing stores, and collaborate with architects to design their buildings. But the exteriors of these buildings also have to reflect the brand itself. It gives the pedestrian or the driver an insight as to what the brand is and what they have to offer. Here are some of the best luxury storefronts:

I buy them clothes and make sure they get their bathes. Their like kids! And the need (more like want) to pamper your dog is continuously growing. Free People recently released The Pet Project where dog owners can purchase beds, collars, harnesses, leashes and tags for their cat or dog. I just can’t get over the cuteness! I’m just dying for the studded harness.

Ellie Goulding teams up with ASOS to promote their #BestNightEver campaign. It’s all about finding that perfect outfit that fits your personal style for that holiday party you have to go to or just another night out on the town. Ellie Goulding brings her effortlessly chic boyish style to table and picks out her favorite pieces from the collection. In the interview with Ellie, she says her style inspirations is “everything from Patti Smith to Gwen Stefani, Courtney Love even.” I have been in love with Ellie since I first heard her song “Starry Eyed” back in 2009. Her debut album “Lights” was a dream, and she has since released her second album “Halcyon” which is even better than her first.

This amazing idea of designer meets affordable is what I’ve always dreamed of! And my dream will come true on December 1st when the Target Neiman Marcus holiday collaboration is unveiled. With designers like Alice + Olivia, Marc Jacobs, Diane Von Furstenberg, Oscar de la Renta and Proenza Schouler designing everything from children’s dresses to luggage, you know no matter what you won’t be disappointed and you’re bound to find you something you will fall in love with. And love at first sight it was! (at least for me) Here are some of the items I think are going to be the most popular (and some of my favorites!):

1. Derek Lam Leopard Slippers

These might be house slippers, but with style like that I would wear them everywhere! You can have your cake and eat it too with these since comfort and style comes in one awesome package.

2. Diane Von Furstenberg Jewelry Box

I might not have designer jewelry, but I would love this chic little designer jewelry box. Probably as close to designer jewelry as I’ll ever be.

3. Marc Jacobs Pouch

One of the most influential designers today and highly popular among the teens and young adults, Marc Jacobs shiny metallic pouchs will catch the eye of many young girls out there.

4. Oscar de la Renta Tote

The sophisticated designer utilized his feminine aesthetic into the design of this sleek bag. This will make for a great present and the perfect spring bag.

5. Proenza Schouler iPad Sleeve

The hottest new designer right now takes much of their inspiration from art. This water color like graphic design compliments the artsy Apple iPad.

6. rage & bone Men’s Sweater

Along with their shot glasses, this sweater will look great and comfortable on just about any man. Definitely something to get that special someone in your life.

7. Tracy Reese Dessert Plates

There are probably going to be some cat fights over these romantic plates trimmed with 18k gold. I don’t think I could eat off of a plate that pretty.

8. Lela Rose Women’s Top

What a versatile piece for any woman! This top can be dressed up or dressed down and can be worn in the summer or the winter.

There are so many brands out there today, but what makes them different from the rest? Why do we choose certain brands over others? Most likely because we love the styles they offer but more importantly because of the price and quality. If an item falls apart after just one wash, like some clothes at Forever 21, then you probably won’t go back even though it only cost you $25. But finding that same item at another store for $50 that will last longer than a couple of washes will probably make you want to come back and buy more. The top three global brands of the fashion sector are known for their individuality along with fantastic quality for the price you pay.

1. Louis Vuitton

The top luxury brand in the world continues to provide the best craftsmanship and elegant fashion to it’s customers. Louis Vuitton is the most recognizable label that is heavily sought after among everyone regardless of financial classification.

2. H&M

The top fast fashion brand always provides “fashion and quality at its best price.” Even though they are fast fashion brand, they continue to collaboration with high fashion labels like Versace and Karl Lagerfeld.

3. Zara

The second best fast fashion brand also provides the best price for the quality and style. They have no advertisements and are seen as a “fashion imitator.” Their mission statement is about how they are eco-friendly

Oh the infamous little black dress. The essential in every girl’s closet. Why is it so essential? Because just about any black dress can make any girl look slim and elegant. Andre Leon Talley curated an exhibit at the SCAD Museum of Art that featured the best of the best of little black dresses from designers like Givenchy, Marc Jacobs and Prada just to name a few. This timeless piece has been redesigned by many but only few have shone as bright as the 72 dresses that Talley has chosen. Since the little black dress has been done so many times, it’s hard for me to find one that I really like (plus I love my colors!). Naturally I was drawn to the more unique dresses. The ones that really stood out to me were Ohne Titel’s leather laser cut athletic dress, Zac Posen’s spider-structured gown and Azzedine Alaia’s zip front dress. For any one who has the time to go do so, you should definitely see this wonderful exhibit.

As we have all heard before, history is always repeating its self. Fashion designers are constantly taking inspiration from the past or past designers. A lot of what we see and wear today is just a modernization of the past silhouettes and designs. Balmain was one of those designers. He was inspired by 19th century silhouettes and architecture, but he always put a fresh look to each garment he designed. While Balmain passed three decades ago, Olivier Rousteing is the now the designer for the house. While keeping with the sophisticated look, Rousteing has had an obvious impact on the label. He showed the sharp tailoring, crisp angles and elegant embroidery that is a Balmain signature while adding a some edge. Immediately from the Resort 2012 show, Rousteing’s first show, he came out strong and has been showing even better collections since then. It’s amazing to see how he glamorizes not only the evening wear but also the daywear. He modernizes Balmain’s timeless pieces and makes them his own.

Sometimes I think that art is just one big experiment. Some people play it safe and some push the envelope. A lot of the photography I have done, especially in the beginning, was and still is very experimental. My favorite experiments were when I would incorporate another medium. Sometimes it worked out, and sometimes it failed. But that was all apart of a learning process to see what works and what doesn’t. I have always been inspired by artists that make incredibly beautiful and successful mixed media pieces.

Matthew Cox makes a lot of mixed media work, but his most recent work of embroidered x-rays has to be the most captivating. He stitches these magical yet eerie scenes on to medical film that show the contrast between the labor intensive embroidery work and the quick process of photography.

Matt Wisniewski creates some of the most interesting collages I have ever seen. He skillfully intertwines portraiture with elements of nature that many artists have tried before. These breathtaking images appear effortless.

Proenza Schouler’s digitally inspired Spring/Summer 13 designs that walked down the runway this past week apart of New York Fashion Week was truly jaw dropping. It is amazing to see everyday images from the internet effortlessly collaged together while incorporating fashion techniques.
