701: My Head Almost Blew Up

Wow!

I can only say that this is the most intense research I have ever done for any art related project. In the past, I might grab a old art book, get inspiration from a run down building on the way to lunch, google for a few minutes, or pick a random topic. Then, I would execute until I thought it looked cool. Now…

I feel like I am doing my first research paper. I searching for resources, checking the authors credentials, researching the publisher, and more. If I could run a background check on the authors, I would. I know that all this work is going to pay off in the long run but its a little hard to swallow at first. I had to do some deep soul searching. I changed my point of view about the projects all together. Instead of visualizing an art assignment, I am pretending that I am doing research papers only. If I do my research well enough, I will be rewarded with a new art assignment. I don’t know how long this trick is going to last but I know I want to design something before the quarter is over.

I have been speaking with some of my former classmates and colleagues. I told them that I never understood why some schools a reluctant to higher individuals with their BFA & MFA from the same institution. I didn’t realize the reason until I started at SCAD. Each school has a particular method that is another part of making you a whole designer, artist, or (insert desired title). I am truly grateful for experiencing SCAD’s learning environment. It is making me a better visual artist.
