This will be the first year of this new festival founded by SCAD Visual Effects Professor, Hal Miles. The dates of the festival are February 5th and 6th, 2010, in Savannah, GA, USA. Although this is not an officially SCAD-sponsored event, SCAD students and faculty are encouraged to submit projects for this prestigeous event for free.

Our panel is comprised of leaders in the visual effects industry, discussing the importance and the limitations of CGI, visual effects and animation.

Rick Baker is a six-time Academy Award winning special effects artist. Baker’s first professional job was as an assistant to Dick Smith on the film The Exorcist. He received the inaugural Academy Award for Makeup for his work on An American Werewolf in London. and later Academy Awards for How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2001) Men in Black (1997), The Nutty Professor (1996), Ed Wood (1994)and Harry and the Hendersons (1988). He recently accepted a Chiller-Eyegore Award at Universal Studios Hollywood for the theme park’s “Halloween Horror Nights” event. He was honored for his incomparable design and his makeup effects that have created indelible imagery in over 42 films.
Scott Farrar received an Academy Award for his work on Cocoon (1985) and received nominations for the award for Artificial Intelligence: AI (2001) and Transformers (2007), The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005), and Backdraft (1991). His other credits include the films Lemony Snicket’s a Series of Unfortunate Events (2004), Minority Report (2002), Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999), Men in Black (1997) and many others. He is currently in production on Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, scheduled for release in 2009.
Robert Legato , Visual effects supervisor, received an Academy Award for Titanic (1997) and was nominated for the award for Apollo 13 (1995). His notable VFX credits include Interview with a Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles (1994), Apollo 13 (1995), Titanic (1997), Armageddon (1998), What Lies Beneath (2000), Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001, also 2nd unit director), The Aviator (2004), The Departed and The Good Shepherd (both 2006), Robert is currently in production on Avatar and Battle Angel (both scheduled for release in 2009).

This will be an annual event that will be taking place this first year on February 5th & 6th, 2010.

Once again, it will be a great show and we’re giving out some awards as well!
Please plan on attending. This event is open to the public, so bring your friends too!

This year it is in New Orleans and it will probably not be this near to Savannah for many years to come. Hotels usually book up fast, so make your reservations early.

Submit you portfolio by April 17th at 3 p.m. on the fourth floor of Montgomery, behind the greeters desk.
DreamWorks are seeking seniors and graduating grad candidates for the following positions; lighting, texturing, 3D Character Animation, rigging (they have actually just opened 2 spots in their Char TD Challenge). They will also look at exceptional juniors. For this visit DW will not be seeking submissions from modelers or 2D animators.
