Ombudsman:

  • The Ombudsman is an impartial, non-biased, informal resource for students and faculty.
  • Looks at issues from all sides
  • Can write letters of appeal for students
  • Deals with issues both on and off campus
    • Most commonly off-campus housing
      • Started Off-campus housing effort
      • Ombudsman commonly finds that students do not understand the “why” of some situations
        • Policy
        • Handbook
        • Students always have the opportunity to do something or nothing about a situation
        • Ombudsman serves all locations( HK, Lacoste, Savannah, and Atlanta)
        • USF and Ombudsman can work together to let students know that they have a listening hear at SCAD
          • Complete confidentiality
          • Can help in any situation or problem

SCAD United Student Forum is seeking motivated, and energetic student leaders to join its elite group of representatives and executives. We are recruiting now until May 20th for dynamic individuals to fill these positions.

We are a group of students, just like you, seeking to uphold the mission of SCAD through collaborative events and ideas that positively improve the university.

Design Group:

  • Dean Pugh was unable to make the meeting
  • USF representatives and executives were able to gather some great feedback
    • Focusing on placement of publicity
      • Suggestion of video/media publicity
      • Using major building monitors( computer and pt. screens)
        •  as a showcase of student work and major student group events on campus
        • Benefits: enlightening current and prospective students about student clubs and activities on campus
  • SCAD Athletics Field

General Meeting Discussion:

  • Side Walk Arts Festival
    • Will take place April 27th from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    • USF has two squares
    • Five USF representatives have volunteered to create the winning squares!

      • Announcing recruitment through weekly student updates, Facebook, and word of mouth

Security Update

 

  • Adding more new access control systems( like the one used at Arnold Hall)
  • Brining in an outside consultant to see  what type of changes need to be made to security at SCAD
    • Outside will have a fresh prospective

 

Men’s and Women’s Rad Classes are offered at SCAD

 

Students should be vigilant around major holidays that bring in a lot of tourists

 

  • St. Patrick’s Day
    • Savannah population: 130,000 during St. Patrick’s Day: over  one million
    • Be aware of your surroundings

Bike Safety

 

  • Bikes must follow the rules of the road (that means bikers are equivalent to cars, buses, vans, semis, etc.).
  • Helmets are not mandatory for people over 16, but highly recommended.
  • Bike lanes are located on Price and Habersham
  • Safest place for biking: squares

 

Parking

 

  • Parking is difficult, mandated by the city
  • Alternative methods: walking, biking, Vespa
  • Rented parking lot at local church in walking distance from Arnold on 38th & Bull s.t

 

Transportation

 

  • Development of Montgomery bus route and shuttle service to that area once the dorm is completed
  • New buses coming soon!

 

Open Forum

 

  • Portfolio Review, March 1st from 1 to 3 p.m.

Portfolio and Resume Review 2013

The United Student Forum is very excited for March first, not only because it is 15 more days until the end of an old quarter and start of a new quarter, but because it is our annual portfolio review!

USF in collaboration with Career and Alumni Success will host a portfolio review that will help prepare students for the upcoming Career Fair in April. The event brings together some of SCAD’s finest professor  from all majors  and disciplines here at the university.

Following the review, will be a Etiquette Meet & Greet.  More information about this 2nd half of the event and the portfolio will be announced closer to the date of the event.
