Map project
March 7th, 2013 by Torri Sankey
The map project had two steps. First we had to get a map and destroy it in what ever we pleased. Then we used our destroyed map to create something beautiful that told a story.
My story was about me and my friend speeding on the highway. So I made a creative way of saying pay attention to the speed limit.

Abc’s and 123′s
March 7th, 2013 by Torri Sankey
For this project we had to use the world around us to find the letters of the alphabet and the number 1 through 9. They had to be found just as they are, no creating letters. Then we presented them however we wanted. I made a book for my abc’s and a small poster for the numbers. Below is all my used work and finished project.

Jack and Jill
February 28th, 2013 by Torri Sankey
The Jack and Jill project was our first group project. We had to reinterpret the nursery rhyme Jack and Jill and then illustrate it. We could only use images from this sheet we got from out teacher. So our group first combined our story ideas to create a new story. Then we designed our pictures. Everybody contributed on what we wanted in our pictures and in making the pictures.
Working in a group was interesting for me. It was convenient because my group members could help me expand my ideas. I didn’t however like having to compromise. I do feel my overall project was better as a group than it would have been by myself.
This is our final product
Some things said about our project in critique:
- The story line was not obvious to everyone. However it still worked out because everyone could see a story just not the story intended.
- Having a flag and a crown was confusing due to there symbols.
- Jack is not clearly represented because of the picture change.
- Craftsmanship could have been better. It caused distractions.
- The total composition could have tied together a little better, with keeping the boldness black objects though out the story.
- The fourth panel is to different. Its distracting.

Sound Map
February 20th, 2013 by Torri Sankey
Our instructions for this assignment were to sit in one place and listen to the different sounds around us and place them on a map. My map doesn’t have a lot of sounds because I heard mostly all of my sounds more than once. However, it was fun to realize how many sounds you hear when u listen for them.

Blog inspiration
February 7th, 2013 by Torri Sankey
For this assignment I used a bad habit and gave it purpose. I looked at tumblr blogs. There are allot of them that are fashion blogs but I chose to look at architecture blogs.
To me certain ones stood out more than other according to if they focus more on the outside of the buildings or the inside. Also how bold the pictures were, in size, color, and weirdness of the design. The blogs were what I expected, there basically straight forward, the only things I would say surprised me was that allot of them focus on interior design. However all of them were interesting because architecture is the area i want to study in.
Once I start my major classes I want to start a blog that I will keep through out my career. If anybody is interested in architecture I posted a few examples of my favorite blogs.

Motif repetition grid
February 2nd, 2013 by Torri Sankey
Our most recent project in class involved making a shape (motif) and repeating it in different way to make a picture. Then coloring it using black and white.
Step 1 was my shape
Step 2 was making 5 different designs with my shape
I chose the last one. Next I had to ink some plans to figure out how to color my design.
After all that this was my final design :
CRITIC NOTES
My design was stated as
- crowded and random.
- It needed more negative space
- Would have been better with better craftsmanship
- Some people liked the grid lines and others didn’t.
-The isolated figure in the bottom right corner was nice but could have had better placement.

Critique Notes
January 14th, 2013 by Torri Sankey
In class today during our critique somethings said about my work was that it looked unfinished and the lines didn’t communicate or connect. Over all I needed to touch up my glue spots and that craftsmanship was very important.

subdivision of a ground sheet
January 14th, 2013 by Torri Sankey
These four pictures were the four finals I picked from my 100 sketches. The top left picture was for horizontals and verticals. I chose it because it’s simple yet when I look at it long enough I see different pictures and meanings. The top right was diagonal lines it was chosen because it gives me a cultural feel. It also looks like an animal to me which was an accident. Lastly because my two roommates and I all saw something different in the picture. The bottom right was to use all lines. I didn’t really have a reason to choose this one other than it happen to be the most interesting out of my other drawings. The last one, or bottom left was curved lines and I liked it because it shows emotion. I chose to redesign this one because it doesn’t do what the assignment was and it doesn’t properly use space.
Below is my redesigned version of the curved lines.
