Saturday Sock Hop!

This Saturday, swing club is having a 1950s Sock Hop, complete with root beer floats and cream soda! Sock hops bring to mind greasers, poodle skirts, and rock and roll music, but that doesn’t quite sum up the ’50s. There were Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Doris Day, and Nat King Cole to name just a few. We’ll throw in a lot more songs from the ’50s to our playlist on Saturday, but we have some old favorites that I’m sure people in that time hadn’t forgotten yet, either, but let us know if you have any suggestions for sock hop music that we can swing to!

We’re starting late this weekend at 9:30, so the lesson might be a bit shorter, but we’ll have a focus on solo jazz moves, so you don’t need a partner to do them, and games and social dancing afterwards!

Ladies, if you’re interested in any last-minute garment purchases to get dressed up, check out these adorable patterns, skirts, and dresses on Etsy!

There are tons more awesome things like this available if you search around, and making a big twirly skirt like that or appliqueing something cute to it is not hard. If you’ve never sewn before, it’s not a bad first project, and you could probably start and finish it in one day!

Hope to see you there!
