The idea that mental instability is connected to brilliance or creativity, though not a new idea, is an intriguing one. I like that the speaker notes that this destructive attitude that is cultured in the creative psyche is unnecessary, and couterproductive. Hearing this talk does not remove the emotional risk of creative activity because the very act of creating is, by its nature, giving a part of yourself. The idea that you don’t have to let the burden of fear deter you is an important aspect of functioning under this kind of personal stress because it sanctions self preservation in a more concrete sense.

Listening to the talk about the idea of beauty was very interesting as well. The concept of beauty is an everchanging thing, differing from generation to generation, in art as well as human preferrence. The only thing decidedly attractive, is the product of a learned skill done well.

Great post!! I think alot of people, including myself have a hard to being as creative as others, we overthink and are fearful that it’s not good enough, when it is! creativity is in everyone :)
