Visiting Special Collections

The Archives and Special Collections Department of the Jen Library is happy to assist students, faculty, and other researchers in locating materials for class work or individual study. Most materials are cataloged and bibliographic information can be found in Millennium, the Library’s online catalog. Many of the Finding Aids for archives and manuscript materials can also be found in Millennium and the rest are available in the department.

During the academic quarter, we are open Monday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.  Break hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM  to 5:00 PM.  We are always happy to schedule an evening appointment if there is a need. The materials in Special Collections do not circulate and must be used within a designated area. The collection is closed stack and cannot be browsed, so it helps if you know what materials you want to use and can present a call number. Researchers will be asked to fill out a brief form and present their ID.

Not all of our materials can be photocopied; the determination is made by the librarian. Since there is not a photocopier in the department, if permission is granted, the librarian will hold on to your ID while you go to make copies. A digital camera is often an acceptable alternative. While taking notes, please use a pencil around our materials. For older or more fragile materials, you may be asked to use gloves when handling the book. These will be supplied by the department. You may bring in a laptop computer, also.

Please see the Visit SCAD in the admissions part of the SCAD website to find directions to the library and information on parking.
