The Society for Collegiate Journalists is a National Society of Collegiate Mass Communications. Formed when Pi Delta Epsilon, founded in 1909, merged with Alpha Phi Gamma, founded in 1919, it is the nation’s oldest organization solely serving college journalists. There are approximately 80 active chapters in the United States and approximately 800 members.
The SCAD chapter of the Society for Collegiate Journalists was granted a charter on May 5, 2004, and since has honored 46 students as members. As community service projects, the SCAD chapter holds an annual zine and mini-comic fair. The chapter happily accepts donations to its collection of zines and mini-comics.
The SCAD Society of Collegiate Journalists Collection of Student Publications, MS 032, consists of small publications created and published by student members of the SCAD chapter of the Society for Collegiate Journalists. The publications vary in size and format, but most are illustrated, some with color. The original donations included 46 publications and the Society plans to add to the collection on a regular basis. The inventory contains a list of all publications and each has been cataloged and is in the SCAD library’s on line catalog.
