Updates

Hello everyone,
Here is a reminder of what is going on in the Society of Illustrators.
First, Senior Show information.
As some of you may have already heard there have been some last minute changes to the Senior show.  Because of unforeseen difficulties with the space that was originally chosen for the show it has been moved to the Illustration gallery at the Savannah Mall.
Here is what has changed.
(1) Because of the new larger space each senior will be allowed up to 4 pieces into the show.
(2) The due date has been extended to April 30th, 2009.
All pieces must still be framed but you now have the option to have them done where you please.  All pieces you turn in should be uniform (same frame molding and mats) and all must be hang-ready (wire on the back) No unframed or unhangable pieces will be accepted.
The ex libris frameshop is still offering the 60% discount for students in the show but remember you need to allow about a week and a half for completion.  That means they need to be into the frameshop no later than 4/23/2009 they have a lot of other shows they are framing at the moment so planning ahead is key.
There are also several other frameshops in town as well the option to frame yourself by purchasing frames from places like target or micheals.
The CD is still required and still needs to have an artists’ statement and a 300dpi tiff file of your work as well the liability waiver.
The reception date has not changed and will be May 29th from 6:30-9PM at the Savannah Mall Gallery and because we are handling the show completely we need help with food and beverage so if you would like to help with that please send us an email.  Remember this is your show so you get back what you put into it.
Secondly, the Displaced Show.
The displaced show will go on as previously planned.
Here’s what has changed.
(1) The due date is still April 30th, 2009 due at the same time as the Senior Show pieces.
(2) All works must be prints and must be matted with at least a  2” border  (black mat only) and must be for sale.
(3) The submission form will be on our blog (www.blog.scad.edu/soi) in the near future and please properly label the pieces.
(4) No pieces will be shipped so picking up unsold work at the end of the show is the responsibility of the owner. (hence prints and not original work)
(5) The show will be up in the Mall Illustration Gallery from 4/2/2009-4/15/2009

The Society of Illustrators is looking for officers for the 2009-2010 school year.
All of the shows and events the club puts on every year cannot happen without officers.
Have ideas?  Be in the loop and influence what goes on the illustration dept and the school as a whole.  Looks AWESOME on a resume!!!
What positions are available?
President
-Leads meetings, in charge of other officers, direct liaison to the Illustration dept and administration, sets the agenda of the club, maintains club funds, and represents the club in formal meetings.
Public Relations Director
-keeps minutes at meetings, handles club correspondence, maintains the SOI Blog, handles any official club communications, is responsible for all press releases, and leads meetings in the absence of the president.
Gallery Director
-responsible for all shows and maintaining the SCAD Illustration Gallery at the Savannah Mall.
Publicity Director
-Responsible for the design, stamping, and distribution of all posters, flyers, banners, and mailers when applicable. (Graphic Design experience a plus)
If you or someone you know may be interested please attend our officer interest meeting this coming Thursday April 30th at 8PM in Morris rm 201.
Did you know the Illustration Gallery is also a store?
Whatever you make : Prints, toys, stuffed animals, stationary, books, accessories, and even clothes you can sell them at the SCAD Illustration Gallery at the Savannah Mall.
What’s the catch?
The store is volunteer run and as such the only requirement of you the vendor is to spend a couple of hours a week helping to run the gallery.
And…..
For a limited time sell your work COMMISSION FREE!!!
That’s right you keep all the sales from your work.
We are all students and we all could use some extra cash so why not sell your work?

Senior Show- IMPORTANT

Hello everyone,
i need this info from all senior show participants by sunday night:

name
adress
email
phone

and naming for piece as shown below. this is very important if i dont get enough of the people to do this we will lose the space.

For example:     Erin Dziedzic

    528 Indian Street
    Savannah, GA 31401
    912.52.4951

    Erin Dziedzic, Untitled, 2009, 18″ x 24″, gouache on paper, $100.00

I have been numerous questions as of late about the senior show and in response to that i have created this FAQ for your convenience.

:Who may participate?

A:any graduating illustration BFA student completing their degree in either Winter, spring, summer, or fall 2009.

:When is the piece due?

A: All Pieces are due at the SOI meeting on April 16th, 2009 at 8PM in Morris rm 201.

: What is due?

A: All the included materials include:

(1) finished piece that is frame ready (either in print form or original artwork that can easily fit in a frame with a width of less than 1/4″ also make sure that the piece is safely fixed)

(1) senior-show-waiver on price line indicate a price or not for sale. and w-9.

(1) completed w-9

(1) disk with 300dpi tiff scan of artwork and a short artists’ statement (.doc file ) about your work as a whole and what you will take from your experiences in college.(please label accordingly)

(1) check made out to the ex libris frameshop in the amount of the particular frame your piece will require (see below for pricing details)  cash and credit will not be accepted if you need to use one of these payment methods please pay the frameshop beforehand and bring your reciept to the meeting and drop it off with your information.

:Can i frame the work myself?

A: NO.  The exhibitions dept is very strict about keeping moulding and mat selections identical so im afraid all framing will have to be done through ex libris. ( i know this is frustrating i work at a framshop myself)

:What are the prices for frames?

A: When selecting a frame size please remember that there is a 3″ minimum mat around the piece in all directions.  So if your piece is 11″X17″ then your minimum frames size is 17″x23″ which fits into a 18″x24″ frame.

16″x20″-$38.57

18×24″-$45.39

22×28″-$54.55

26×32″-$77.11

*please keep in mind that these prices are 60% off normal costs and that while it may seem like a lot of money it is severely discounted for your convenience.

:what if i have a small piece and i want to fit multiple pieces in one frame?

A: please consult the ex libris frameshop beforehand and please pay them in advance. keep in mind the minimum 3″ mat.

: How many pieces am i allowed to submit?

A: Each student is allowed one framed piece into the show.

: When are the dates of the show?

A: show details will be released within the next two weeks by email and by poster.

:what if i forget something on the night everything is due?

A: no incomplete submissions will be accepted please make arrangements in advance.

: what if i cant make it to the meeting?

A: because money will be changing hands no early dropoff will held with this show if you cannot make it to the meeting please have someone dropoff the piece at the meeting (remember no incomplete submissions will be accepted)

Have any other questions?

send us an email at soi@scad.edu
