Shoujo Phonebook Members,
It’s me, your faculty advisor, Professor Benjamin Reid Phillips. Over the last eight months I’ve been co-authoring an upcoming Watson-Guptill text on storyboarding and my co-author, Professor David Rousseau, and I would like to enlist the aide of you for student artwork for exercises contained in the text. This would be an excellent opportunity for publication in an internationally distributed text from a major publisher. We are looking for the following:
One student will be selected
A nine-panel storyboard executed in pencil
The Academy ratio 1.33:1 storyboard templates would be used (This will be provided)
A shot call list will be provided and this is a Live-Action storyboard, not one for animation
We are looking for a manga style or one heavily influenced by manga, our goal is to include diverse styles in the book to help show that drawing approaches can vary and that it’s a good thing
The turn around would be two weeks from the time the student is selected
All formatting for the text would be handled by myself and you will be credited in the book.
Interested students can email me directly at bphillip@scad.edu and be sure to include a link to an online portfolio or some jpeg images, please send images that are reflective of your typical comic style

April 30th – May 1st: Geek Dance and Artist Alley!
Okay guys! This upcoming weekend is going to be full of awesome (and not just because of that silly Sand Arts festival, no)!
Shoujo is going to be bringing you two awesome events! Geek Dance: Lolitafied and Artist Alley!
The Geek Dance is going to be this Friday, April 29th starting at 8PM in O-House Ballroom. We’re teaming up with Kamikaze Sushi, and Gamer’s Guild for a night of raving mayhem and costume contests. Shoujo will be providing sweets for our fundraiser, and another raffle with cool prizes!
Then, on Saturday, May 1st, 12PM @ the Student Center, we’ll be having our annual Artist Alley! Spaces are almost gone right now, but if there are no-shows you can still bring your stuff to set up and sell! It’s good con practice and you can see what your fellow students are selling.
We’ll also be selling Shoujo Phonebook Vol 7 at both events, see you there!

Back from SCADCon & Next Week’s Meeting
Hello folks! Thanks to everyone who visited our table at SCADCon, which served as our 7th volume’s debut!
A lot of people stopped by to flip through and buy the book, so it looks like it’s a good start for Vol 7! For those of you away from the SCAD campus, it is available for purchase through Lulu for 15 dollars!
We were also able to get our books to the editors of Editor’s Day! Woohoo! Let us hope that our fantastically awesome comics impressed them!
Anyhoo, we’ll also be having our Book Signing Partay and Officer Elections his upcoming Tuesday, April 13th, 9PM @ the Student Center. There will be free cupcakes and we’ll also be selling our books! To our published members, this is your opportunity to get your free copy, and then be sure to stay so that we could all get everybody’s books signed
We’ll also be holding officer elections shortly afterwards for the positions of Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. More details after the link!

Grace Period and Cover Contest Extension
Ello, good news for anyone who wanted to to do some touch ups to their entries!
Traditionally, Shoujo Phonebook has always had it’s true deadline the Friday after the Tuesday meeting. But be warned, you must turn in your entries on your own time in person and on CDs to make this date! Please be sure to follow the correct submission format on these discs.
You’ll have until midnight, February 26th. We’ll be at the Mini-Comics Expo so you could either drop it off there, or email us at shoujo@scad.edu to arrange something.
Also as for our cover contest, it has been extended to Wednesday, March 3rd, midnight. Email your entries as 72 dpi, RGB jpegs to shoujo@scad.edu and then will post them up online for voting until Sunday @ midnight. The same rules still apply, but make sure to submit at least a front cover and cover entries should be in color! Don’t include the cover design graphics, just your illustration for them.
Be sure to have a 300 dpi, CMYK tiff to turn in if you win! (This would most likely have to be brought in person due to the large file size).
Alright, good luck everybody!
