Nov 8th: Ideas Sharing Meeting and shopSCAD

For our last meeting of the fall quarter, we’ll be meeting at the Student Center, Sunday, Nov 8th, at 5 PM.  Bring any scripts, sketches, or even just story ideas to bring to the club and share with your fellow members!  This serves as an informal due date for the “idea” part of your Comic Phonebook submission.  It’s highly recommended that you get the story done before winter break, so that you’ll have all of December to draw it out.

And next up, to announce a monumental event for the club, for the first time ever Phonebook will be for sale at shopSCAD!

That’s right, volume 6 is now honored amongst the wares of shopSCAD and on sale for just ten dollars each!  So skedaddle on over there if you’re looking to own a copy!

It’s thanks to our awesome members last year who contributed superb comics and illustrations that Comic Phonebook was able to be accepted into shopSCAD.  Let’s work hard to make an even better book this year and impress them even more :D

Nov 3rd: Comics 101 Workshop

Our next and second to last meeting will be this Tuesday, November 3rd at the Student Center at 9 PM for our first ever Comics 101 Workshop hosted by Professor Phillips!  It’d be a workshop all about comic basics, from panel layouts to speech bubbles!  Great for comic beginners, or if you just want a refresher.

You should all definitely go!!!

And then for our last meeting of the quarter, it’d be on Sunday, November 8th, at the Student Center at 5 PM.  This will be our idea sharing meeting, where you get to show any sketches or scripts to your fellow members for comments, critique, or praise!  It also serves as an informal check point to make sure you’ve got an idea for your comic before the winter break starts :D

See you there!

Oct 20th: Script Writing Workshop & T-Shirt Contest!!!

September Recap

Whew, hello again guys!  We’ve finally restored access to our blog so we can give you updates on it again :D  (Unfortunately, our official SCAD email is still down) Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.

Anyhoo, here’s what’s happened since the beginning of Fall.  First off, we had great attendance at our Fall Fest booth and at our interest meeting, it was awesome to see so many new faces :D  Looks like it’s going to be a fun year!

And for those of you returning, we’ve basically made three main rule changes to be eligible for submissions this year:

  • You must attend 4 club meetings before the submissions deadline (Feb 9th)
  • Community service and leadership opportunities are no longer required to submit to the book*
  • Comic entries must somehow feature a penguin, a puffin, or both!

* Subject to change, but we’ll let you know way in advance and it’d be quite minimal.

And just this last Tuesday, was our first fundraiser of the year, the Lolita Tea Party!  It was an amazing success, with lots of Lolita and tea to go around :D  We were experimenting with bringing back the idea of Tea House fundraisers that used to be hosted by the club back in the day.  Since the turn out was so great, I’ll say you can definitely count on us hosting more Tea Parties in the future!  (And you can check out more pictures on our Facebook!)

Thanks for coming guys!  And many thanks to our volunteers as well :D  For now, stay tuned to hear more about our October 20th meeting, which will feature our T-shirt Contest at the Student Center, 9 PM!

An Olde to Fall

Hello guys!

Billie here, your Shoujo Phonebook president and excited for Shoujo Phonebook’s seventh year!  We’ve already got lots of fun stuff planned for fall, including another Artist Alley and a Lolita Tea Party.  And, we may have our first ever t-shirt design contest, yay!

But first, to announce some changes for the upcoming year.  For our new officer lineup, we’ve got Joy Hua as secretary, Sarah Menzel as treasurer, and Professor Benjamin Phillips as club faculty adviser.  Hurah!

And next, we’ve reworked some of the club membership rules to match ICC’s new policies.  From now on, you will not be required to participated in two community service projects, but!  That has been replaced by the Leadership Opportunity events instead.  Now, you’ll just have to attend two of those.  They’re way easier and actually on campus!  Check out our rules page for more details.

That’s it for now, hope you all had a good summer!  Be sure to visit us at Fall Fest (Sept 19th, 4-8pm, Dyson Field) or at our Interest Meeting (Tuesday, Sept 22th, 9pm, Student Center).  See you there!
