Serve exists to educate and foster life-learning and social responsibility and to provide students with a chance to serve the Savannah community through volunteer and paid positions. The office promotes community service and service learning as a link between the Savannah College of Art and Design and the Savannah community while enhancing the existing curriculum through positions that allow students to develop skills in work-based outlets.
Serve is the Savannah College of Art and Design’s student-led community service office. It is comprised of seven service coordinators, who each coordinate and facilitate specific programs. Coordinators gain experience in networking, recruiting, project-planning, decision-making, promotion, and delegating responsibilities. Serve provides students with the opportunity to serve Savannah community through contacts with local agencies and schools. The needs of the community dictate the service provided.
Serve has been SCAD’s source for community service for almost fourteen years. In the past, students expressed a need for outreach programs and SCAD has supported the need. Today SERVE offers numerous volunteer programs including Alternative Spring Break, H.E.Art, Book Buddies, Kid’s Cafe, Habitat for Humanity, Pet Project, and a variety of special events throughout the school year.
