The Persistence of Animation Conference
21st Annual Society for Animation Studies Conference
July 10-12, 2009
Savannah College of Art and Design, Atlanta, Georgia
The conference will take place at the Savannah College of Art and Design’s Atlanta campus, located at 1600 Peachtree St., NW, Atlanta, GA 30309. Unless otherwise indicated, all conference events will be held on the 4th floor of SCAD-Atlanta’s Building C in Event Space 4C, one or more adjacent classrooms, and Gallery 4 See. The SAS membership meeting is currently scheduled for the Welcome Center, 2nd floor of Building A.
An exhibition of items from The Don Bluth Collection of Animation from SCAD’s Jen Library, in Savannah, will be on display in Gallery 4 See and the Artists’ Book Room of the ACA Library of SCAD (4th floor of Building A). Though organized in conjunction with the conference, the exhibit will run July 7-31.
The High Museum of Art will host a Friday night screening of independent and commercials animation made in Georgia that is being organized by ASIFA-Atlanta. This will be held at the Museum’s Rich Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public; conference participants will automatically be signed up for tickets. Free registration for all others will be available (at a date to be announced) through the ASIFA-Atlanta website.
Free lunch will be provided for all those who pay to register on Friday and Saturday; a box lunch will be provided for those attending the SAS membership meeting on Sunday.
Shuttle bus service will be provided each morning, before the conference, and every evening, between the conference hotel (Residence Inn Atlanta Midtown/17th Street) and SCAD-Atlanta after the afternoon events are over; on Sunday, there will be shuttle service available to both the hotel and the Arts Center MARTA station after the conference and after the membership meeting. There will be no shuttle service between the hotel and SCAD-Atlanta on Thursday night,, or the hotel and the High Museum (which is a short walking distance from the Residence Inn) on Friday night.
