Hey SEQA people,

Thanks to everyone that came to the previous meeting about The Pitch. We had a great turn out and we hope most of you will consider taking The Pitch in the near future!

Coming up next, Professor Mark Kneece will be joining us to talk about writing for comics. Got an idea for a graphic novel but don’t know where to start? Come enhance your storytelling skills, learn about the essentials for writing comics and hear about how to break into the industry as a writer.

The following meeting will be a mini panel on Networking and Marketing at Conventions. We will have students and professors talk about their experiences with marketing, how to make prints, what sells and what doesn’t, and networking etiquette. Con-goers, this is a panel you don’t want to miss! As a matter of fact, it’ll be just in time for a very important SEQA event known as…

The 19th Annual Comics Art Forum!

It will happen on Friday, Feb. 15 – Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013. Comics Art Forum has been a proud part of the history of the sequential art department for many years. The CAF permits guests to discuss sequential art concerns from many differing points of view and provides students with an opportunity to work with and learn from a variety of top industry professionals.

This year’s guests are:

Dawud Anyabwile- Broadcast Designer for Turner Studios in Atlanta where he produces a variety of artistic work both for broadcast and print for clients such as Cartoon Network, TNT, TBS, TRU TV, NBA TV, Boomerang and more.

Reilly Brown- Comic book artist and a pioneer in the field of digital comics storytelling. His creator-owned comic POWER PLAY, was among the first to rethink the way that comics are read and presented on digital devices.

Rafael Rosado- Storyboard artist for Warner Brothers, Disney, and Cartoon Network. He currently works digital in creating storyboards and animatics.

Dave Roman- Author of several graphic novels including Astronaut Academy: Zero Gravity, Teen Boat! and Agnes Quill: An Anthology of Mystery.

Winter SAS

Hello SEQA People!

We’re back for another exciting quarter! A few of our officers are a hop, skip, and jump over a pond or two in Lacoste and Hong Kong but that won’t stop us from all the great things we have planned : )

Andres del Valle, Patrick Snyder, and Myself (Jayleen Jackson) are temporarily holding the fort until our senior officers return in the spring.

First things first, we’ve planned a collaborative project with Breaking the Cycle. On January 18th, we will be going to the local YMCA to have a Q & A about Sequential Art and the industry. We also have a mini comics activity planned for them to work on. We’ll be meeting at the Student Center at 3 PM and a bus will take us to the YMCA from there. The event is until 5:30 PM. If you’d like to come volunteer, we’ll have a Facebook event you can join posted on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/6271307212/

Also, our first meeting will be held next Sunday ( January 20th) at 2 PM on the second floor of the Student Center. We’ll be having a mini comics workshop so bring any materials that you want to make your comics out of. We’ll provide the paper : )

See you all next week!

Fall quarter is right around the corner, and with it, lots of awesome workshops and events. So keep your eyes on this space for up to date information.

If you have any suggestions for things you would like to see this quarter, leave a comment.

Salutations sequential lovers!

This Sunday’s Meeting!

As usual, we’ll meet in Norris 101 at 2PM.
This meeting we’ll be having a second pitch meeting for those newer members who didn’t get a chance to tell us their stories last time. If you’ve already pitched us your idea, you should bring whatever you’ve been working on to show us and we’ll take a look at it. That includes scripts, thumnails, or even if you’ve finished a few pages.

This Sunday’s Meeting!

This sunday, November 7th, we will have the widely anticipated Pitch Meeting for our 99 Word Balloons publication with Professors Tom Lyle, Anthony Fiser, and Mia Paluzzi!!
We’re excited to hear what kind of stories you have in mind for our club’s anthology, but let’s go over some important things about this very special meeting:

1. DON’T COME LATE! We plan to start this meeting as fast as possible in order to get through all the pitches as smoothly and quickly as we can so that everyone has a chance to be heard

2. The official SAS meeting will start at 2PM in Norris room 101. However, we know a lot of you have questions about how to properly present your pitch to us and the professors. So If you have questions, the SAS officers will be at Norris an hour early to help you out. We will also have a handout about the rules for the publication, so if you have questions about that, please arrive early as well.

3. No materials are necessary. We are not looking at drawings or scripts during this meeting; there will be plenty of that next quarter. For now, the only thing we’d like you to bring is yourself, and some notes for your own benefit if you so choose.

We will explain how we will go about having everyone pitch on Sunday.

Other announcements

The mascot contest deadline has been extended to November 7th so get those entries in! You can email your mascot to sas@scad.edu or hand them in to an officer at the meeting.
Entries received after Midnight on November 7th will not be accepted. Sorry.
We encourage entries to not just be a picture, but a whole reference and biography of the character.

And don’t forget, you can check the blog at blog.scad.edu/sas for other information about SAS or shoot us an email if you have other questions.

Take care my lovelies!
