Comics Art Forum!

Posted on October 24th, 2009 in event, update by sas

Hey Guys!

I hope everyone got a chance to attent comics art forum this weekend, if you did not then you totally missed out but do not fret! We have some notes for you guys!

Our fabulous guest of talented proffessionals this year were Mark Schultz, Ben Caldwell, Robert Atkins, Derek Kirk Kim, Brandon Graham, and Sanford Greene.

The actual Comics Art Forum can be found on SEQALAB.com, as they were nice enough to record it for us but here are a few pointers that I thought were extremely important.

Networking: The general consensus was do it! Go to conventions, build a website and gain an internet presence! It is important to know people not only because it could bring on possible jobs but it is good to remain on good relations with your peers.

Working: Don’t wait and evaluate your best work hours. If you work better at night then work at night. Stay excited about drawing and keep it up. You may end up working all day with little interaction from the outside world but you have an oppurtunity to do what you love!

If you get an offer, take it!

Again the actual forum will be on seqalab.com, so go check it out if you missed it!

Hey guys! I hope you had a great week!

How did midterms go?

This email is a reminder about our meeting on Sunday, we are going to have the infamous Tom Lyle come and talk to us!

Tom has worked for both Marvel and DC, and currently teaching here at SCAD and is also SAS’s faculty advisor. He is a pro at story telling, panel layout, and perspective. He’s going to be there to answer any questions we might have from best way to ink to anything about making it as a proffesional.

I hope to see you all there!

Remember: Room 306 at 2pm!

Also! Don’t forget about our anthology! The due date is Nov. 6th!

We are meeting in room 205 this time, because that is his room.

See you guys at 2pm!!

And remember the SAS anthology due date is coming up! Nov. 6th! If you have pages you want us to look at during out meetings or have any questions please let us know and we will be more than happy to help!

(PS: I’m still trying to get everyone’s working emails so if you haven’t been getting anything from us then please send an email to sequentialartsociety@gmail.com so that we can add you to the mailing list)

First Meeting notes!

Posted on September 30th, 2009 in meeting, update by sas

THANKS to everyone who showed up at the first meeting, it was a great turn out!

But for those who didn’t get a chance to come to our first meeting, we made a few notes about what we went over.

First, (after all those crazy introductions <3) we went over what to expect from SAS this quarter. We want to try and do a work shop every meeting with a Professor, grad student, or anyone who is confident on the subject we might be focusing on that work shop. Some of the things that you guys said you would be interested in learning more about was:

Dramatic Light/Noir comic
Character development and design
Screen printing
Lettering and paneling
Screen tones
Folds
Script writing and developing stories
Mini-comics
Convention prep
Backgrounds and perspective
Inking, and digital coloring

We will try out best to get everything you guys want in, and if there is anything that is not on the list that you would be interested learning or learning more about then please let us know and we will do our best! The next thing we went over in the meeting was the anthology that will be due Nov. 6th, for more information on the anthology then please click the link to the anthology page. (It should be on you right under the Pages section.) Or you can email us at sequentialartsociety@gmail.com.

Reminder! Next meeting is canceled due to 24 hour comic day. Feel free to come to Norris at 10am this saturday and work on comics, or even homework for 24 hours. There will be treats and each room will have a different form of entertainment so please come by! Everyone is welcome to join in (and if you want to sign up there is a sheet at the bottom of the stairs in Norris)

Now the next meeting, which would be October 11th! We are proud to announce that Prof. Mark Kneece is going to come and talk to us about script writing and story development. So if you have questions about a certain story you might be working on (*cough* anthology *cough*) or if you have questions about story development in general then please come and listen! Even if you don’t have any questions about script writing, feel free to join because you never know what you might learn!

I believe that is all so I hope everyone is having a great week and I look forward to seeing you all at 24 hour comic day!

SIDE NOTE! Could everyone who wants to be on the email list please email sequentialartsociety@gmail.com so that we can actually send you things! (A lot of the emails we currently have are invalid.)

SAS First Meeting!

Posted on September 25th, 2009 in event, meeting by sas

Come on out to the Sequential Art Society, we will be meeting at Norris Hall 548 E. Broughton St., 2pm in room 304  . For this first meeting we’ll get to know everyone, introduce you to the officers, go over what we have planned for the club and ask the members what they want to happen with the club. We’ll also go over the anthology and how you can submit. Afterward you can stay with us and watch the Wonder Woman Animated movie (which is really good by the way). So if you love comics come join us this Sunday. If you dont know how to get there just to ask and we’ll get you there.

PS- If you want to work on homework while we watch the movie you can bring it with you.

SAS at Fall Fest

Posted on September 20th, 2009 in event, meeting, update by sas

Fall Fest this year was a HUUUGE success! The SAS table got a ton of new students interested in the club and we thank all of those who came out there.  I know we received over 100 people who signed up on our mailing list and that is amazing, it’s awesome that there are so many people interested in Sequential Art.  Our FIRST meeting will be next Sunday the 27th at 2pm, most likely at Norris Hall.  But seeing as we have so many people interested in coming by we might move it to another bigger space.  If anything comes up or anything about the first meeting is changed we will message all members letting them know and definitely post updates here onto the blog.  If you wish to email us our address is: sequentialartsociety@gmail.com

Thanks Again!

Peace.
