That you may be healed.

This is a reblog from my other blog. enjoy:

Check this out guys:

James 5:16 (esv, emphasis added)

16Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.

I’ve not read that in the ESV before, and I think I may get an ESV just to study James.. I love the way it reads. but anyway, this verse stresses the importance of community. Share your burdens with your brothers, that they may pray for you, for the prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. Oh, and we know who that great power is.

Ephesians 5:8 (nkjv, emphasis added)

8For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9(for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. 11And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. 12For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. 13But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. 14Therefore He says:
“ Awake, you who sleep,
Arise from the dead,
And Christ will give you light.”

No, the bible doesn’t contradict itself,  I think what verse 12 is speaking of is that to brag of your sins is shameful. correct me if I”m wrong.

I love verse 14 though. A couple years ago, one of my friends got convicted about a relationship he was in, and this was the verse I remember him saying God used to reveal to him his sins. It’s so comforting. if we are willing to answer the call to WAKE UP, and arise from the dead, Christ will give us light (vs 14) to expose the unfruitful works of darkness (vs 11), that we would end our fellowship with them, and begin our fellowship with Christ!

Edit:
one verse you can’t really leave out when talking about confession and repentance is Psalm 32. esv, emphasis added.
1 Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven,
whose sins are covered.
2 Blessed is the man whose sin the LORD does not count against him
and in whose spirit is no deceit.
3
When I kept silent, my bones wasted away
through my groaning all day long.
4
For day and night your hand was heavy upon me;
my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer.  Selah5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity.
I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD” — and you forgave the guilt of my sin.  Selah

6 Therefore let everyone who is godly pray to you while you may be found;
surely when the mighty waters rise they will not reach him.
7 You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble
and surround me with songs of deliverance.  Selah

8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will counsel you and watch over you.
9 Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding
but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you.

10 Many are the woes of the wicked,
but the LORD’s unfailing love surrounds the man who trusts in him.
11 Rejoice in the LORD and be glad, you righteous;
sing, all you who are upright in heart!

I love that psalm.
