PhotoGroup is having our second bake sale this year Tuesday, May 24th from 8-5 PM. Our officers will be in the Arnold Hall lobby selling a myriad of tasty treats such as muffins, chips, and cookies!

However, the more help we can get with the table the better. If you would like to volunteer, eat a muffin or two, and have the delightful company of our staff, please let us know! If you can help out for any length of time beginning at any time within 8 PM and 5 PM we will appreciate it!

CONTEST

PhotoGroup members sign up by e-mailing photogroup@scad.edu AS SOON AS POSSIBLE before this Saturday, May 7th. We will have a list of FashionBuz members we will pair you up with. You will receive an e-mail with a list of the groups we have paired up, generally with two stylists and two photographers to work with each other. The list will provide contact information and it will be up to YOU to organize dates for your shoot.

GUIDELINES

Our theme for this contest is the reinterpretation of a relatively well known artwork or artist. The stylists will need to find appropriate garments for the shoot, and the photographers need to…well…shoot it. In general, we suggest using one outfit and having at least four different shots in your submission. The submission is due by MAY 16th on the third floor outside Larry Dixon’s office. There will be a shoebox to put your CD in, appropriately labeled. Photographs need to be 72 DP, 1000 pixels on the longest side, and on a CLEARLY LABELED disk.

PRIZES

The contest will be judged May 17th at our next PhotoGroup meeting by your peers. FashionBuzz members will receive a $100 gift card to civvies, and PhotoGroup members will receive a $100 gift card to Ex Libris. (If there is more than one photographer, several gift cards will be distributed with a combined value of $100 total.)

Come to our next meeting for our Photographer/Assistant speed dating, to turn in your submissions for last meeting’s disposable camera contest and learn about Fashion Buzz!

The Speed dating is simple: PHOTOGRAPHERS NEED TO SIGN UP VIA E-MAIL AT PHOTOGROUP@SCAD.EDU BY MONDAY, MAY 2! We will give you a booth where you hang out with your portfolio. Everyone who wants to assist brings their work (digital or hard copy) to show the photographers. Each photographer and assistant will have approximately 5 minutes to show their stuff, get familiar, and see if they want to work with one another. Then you play musical chairs and the next assistant strolls by to speak with that photographer. And so on and so on…

Also, bring your disposable cameras back from our contest last meeting for us to develop! We need our submissions back to we can judge!

Come volunteer for the Silver&Ink portfolio review sessions this Friday 2-4:30 and/or Saturday 10-2ish!

Since typically a few portfolio review slot holders don’t show up the volunteers would get first dibs on their slot. So definitely bring your portfolio. Even if you don’t get to have your portfolio reviewed, it’s an excellent opportunity to mingle and jingle with professional photographers. You know, give those elevator speeches we discussed in our last meeting!

Hello, Hello, PhotoGroupies! Hope everyone had a glorious winter quarter. PhotoGroup is especially excited for the upcoming events of our final quarter this school year.

Here’s a sneak peak of our marvelous scheme:

FIRST SPRING MEETING: TUES. APRIL 12TH

PhotoGroup’s first spring meeting will be held Tuesday, April 12th, 8 PM in Bergen 106. At this meeting there will be pizza (surprise!), soda (because pizza needs a friend), and a discussion on what YOU want to achieve this semester. We will be choosing a theme for our photo collaboration contest with Fashion Buzz, discussing details for a destroyed disposable camera contest, promoting our annual bake sale and last but not least, hammering out the details on our Photographer/Assistant speed-dating night. We will also be sharing our favorite photo blogs and discuss what exactly to say when you find yourself in an elevator with Annie Leibovitz. So come to our meeting with your best ideas, questions and a hungry belly!

FASHION BUZZ COLLABORATION CONTEST

The weekend of the 14-17th SCAD Fashion Buzz and PhotoGroup will be having a joint collaboration contest! Our theme for the contest will be voted on at the PhotoGroup meeting on the 12th. On the tentative date of Friday, April 15th Fashion Buzz and PhotoGroup will meet to pair off stylists and photographers to work with one another. Groups will have the whole weekend to shoot fashion photos on the theme. The winner will not only be showcased on this masterpiece of a blog, but will receive a $100 gft certificate to ExLibris. (So you can finally get that portfolio case you’ve been eying… or approximately twenty teddy bears with SCAD T-Shirts on them.)

BAKE SALE, WED. APRIL 20th

Know what compliments a great 8 AM class? Krispy Kreme doughnuts. PhotoGroup has this covered. Wednesday, April 20h PhotoGroup will be selling baked goods from 7 AM to 4:45 PM in the lobby of Bergen. We will have doughnuts, cookies, muffins galore for sale. All proceeds go to PhotoGroup!

This weekend we are hosting a program named The Yule Ball which is a Harry Potter-themed dance that gives residents a chance to enjoy a fun-filled night with friends and dance the night away. I was wondering if a representative from Photo Group would be willing to take photographs of students all dressed up in their wizard wardrobes and semi formal Muggle attire.
