Mission
Our mission is to have a community of students present, explore, discuss, and apply the ideas of New Urbanism and other “good urbanism theories. Such ideas we focus on are planned walkable neighborhoods, good public transportation, and how this applies to our communities. Students, faculty, professionals and the greater community will explore the vitality of our urban places and how to maintain and design great urban environments for us to live in. Students for New Urbanism encompasses three main parts: 1. Education: To teach others and ourselves about urban design. 2. Service: To help the communities in our area and be part of the urban design process. 3. Connection: Act as a facilitator between professionals and students among many disciplines that participate in the planning process. Group’s principal activities, events, or programs: Lectures & Guest Speakers on topics ranging from urban design and planning, to affordable housing and sustainable development. Community tours, lecture series, charrettes, and social/discussion meetings How this group’s activities benefit the University community: Spread of knowledge and awareness of urban form, master planning, and “place making” How this group fits into its categories: We are primarily an academic group with interests in Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Planning, Social Equity, and Environmental Sustainability How to get involved with this group: Please email ocuclub@scad.edu to join.
