Fashion will always continue to replica, rework, reinterpret and incorporate new ideas and inventions. The idea is to always, be the new, be the next idea, not the old. The value of studying recent decades of historic fashion creates the understanding of newer fashions and the evolution that is scene through the eras. As new designers rise and design houses continue to send collections down the runway we see reinterpretations of historical influences everyday. Sure inspiration comes from what is around us and things we see and new inventions of innovations. But the foundation is in our history. For example we see designers like Vivvenne Westwood a inspired designer who falls in love with the streets of london her history began with street and couture, her experimentation and mix matching ideas with no rules can be seen in todays designers and in the Metropolitan Museum with a section of “Chaos to couture.” And in her work we can see the inspiration she gained form the 18th century from designers like Dior who created the english gentleman look. We see Westwood send new gentleman suits down the runway with new innovative patterns and styles.
Another designer example is Charles Worth. He began his house and collections with the use of crinoline, and bustles he would be the first to have live models displaying his clothing and the first to create tags and branding. He now has set the standard for ever designer wether it be in there branding or there 4 season runway collections viewed on the runway. As we can see fashion has reinterpreted even the simplest and most well known fashion elements. Branding a key to today’s fashion.
Not stopping there we see reinterpretation in the current high low dress. First begun by designer Balenciaga known as the trapeze hem we now know it as the high-low dress.
Reinterpretation is around us everywhere by looking to historical influences we are able to see connections and influences on todays fashion. Fashion in a re-innovation of mimicked fashion from previous eras. It is how we can make something new from the old.
