AX Anime Expo by Jeremy Kahn

AX is an anime expo out of Southern California. This year’s AX 2010 displayed many of the anime industries’ biggest names as they revealed new titles recently acquired for distribution in the West.

Viz Media held a panel to announce they would be streaming the anime Vampire Knight online as well as releasing the series on DVD later in the year. They also announced that they had acquired the manga rights to “Mistress Fortune” and “Sakura Hime Kaden, the Legend of Princess Sakura” both by Arina Tanemura for release in February and April of 2011 for the low cost of $9.99. Also in their acquisition rights for release in 2011 are the mangas “Oresama Teacher” by Izumi Tsubaki, “Ai Ore” by Mayu Shinjoi, and new anime “Nurarihyon no Mago” also known as, “Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan.” This series first aired in Japan on July 5th. Viz Media has plans to simulcast the anime on the same day via their VizAnime site. What this means is as new episodes are shown in Japan viewers in the US can watch the same episodes at the same time on the VizAnime site.

Funimation revealed that they will distribute some of Geneon’s titles including Black Lagoon OVA Robert’s Blood Trail, Hellsing Ultimate 5+, To Aru Kagakuno Railgun, Texhnolyze, Ai Yori Aoshi, Armitage III, Haibane Renmei, Hellsing TV, Serial Experiments Lain, Tenchi in Tokyo, Tenchi Universe, and Tenchi Muyo OVAs, Tenchi Muyo Movies. Among their many announcements were shows that would be simulcast on their website and hulu.com. These shows consisted of Moyashimon, a live action series, Sekirei Season 2, and The Legend of the Legendary Heroes.

After all this there was a Q and A panel with some interesting information among other things which hinted at a theatrical release for Trigun, an October release for Birdy the Mighty: Decode, and a November release for Oh edo Rocket.

Digital Manga Publishing or DMP for short, revealed their manga plans for the rest of 2010. Among their upcoming titles are Vampire Hunter D Volume 5 and Yashakiden by Hideyuki Kikuchi Volume 3 both due out this winter, Finder Vol 1 available in September with Vol. 2 in the fall, and Under Grand Hotel by Mika Sadahiro Vol. 1 coming out in the summer.

In addition to the announcements, they talked about their plans for 2011. The company will also provide exclusive animation cells for sale on their site. They are partnering up with Viz Media and Studio Pierrot to provide this exclusive for their first title, Naruto Shippuden.
