We currently have meetings the 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th Tuesdays of the quarter in Montgomery Hall room 311. We also have finals work parties the last Saturday of the quarter in room 309 10pm-2am.

The deadline for the portfolio reviews and student showcase is Sunday, May 8th at 11:59PM. Instructions for submission are in the folders in the inspire2011-showcase folder in the shared student projects drop box. Although the same project cannot be submitted into multiple categories, boards and animation for a single project can be submitted in two different categories. 
This quarter we are planning on having an Outreach and Education event targeted to underclassmen students who are unaware about what Motion Media Design is. We will show projects and have pizza. Anthony Palcic II is organizing the event, so email him if you want to get involved, at apalci20@student.scad.edu. 
Be sure to come to the last meeting of the year, Tuesday, May 17th 8PM in Monty 311! There will be pizza and discussing last minute details for Inspire and CoMotion that following Friday and Saturday!

• Officer elections for next year will be at the next meeting. Positions include: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, ICC Liason, and more!
• Comotion is coming up! May 20-21! If you missed the volunteer interest meeting and want to help email comotion.scad@gmail.com. There are lots of things to help out with including the student showcase and portfolio reviews. 11 companies have signed up for reviews so far and there are already $10,000 worth of prizes to give out. More information coming soon!

• Professor Gladman gave a presentation about 2 classes he is teaching at Hong Kong over the summer. It’s a great opportunity to experience a new culture and environment while taking classes and earning credit!

•Stephen Withers will be presenting a great OPPORTUNITY to work on a sci-fi/comedy pilot in need of some sweet interface graphics.

•Professor Austin Shaw will be presenting his first of many DESIGN BATTLES that will be an opportunity to flex your design skills, pitch, and get comfortable with that process.

•The amazing PAT HELBIG will be doing some last-minute Career Fair prep. More info about this year’s fair @ www.scad.edu/careerfair. A ton of companies (relevant to us even) will be attending including Brand New School, The Mill, and Apple to name a few.

•Finally, going over COMOTION and checking in with the teams from the interest meeting.

We had a great first meeting of the quarter with an amazing turnout! Let’s keep it going and make sure we have to grab chairs from the hallway every other meeting!

Now through January 29^th is the Pulse: Art and Technology Festival at the Jepson Center. There are lectures, exhibitions, and performances that will interest anyone, and there are even SCAD professors participating in the festival, including Motion Media Professor James Gladman. The Winter Quarter Senior Soiree will be tomorrow, Saturday, January 22^nd 4-8pm in the O-House Ballroom. There are over 70 senior projects participating!

Competition is FREE to enter and open to all students, faculty and staff of higher education institutions around the world. Participants may submit up to 2 times in 15 different categories and 3 faculty categories. All student categories except for Web Analytics and Mobile Analytics* will be judged throughout the competition year. Students are able to submit in three judging sessions and semifinalists will be selected during each judging session. Students are advised to submit their projects for every academic term from May 2010 through June 2011.

2011 Judging* Schedule:

1. November 30, 2010 — January 28, 2011 — Semifinalists announced in February 2011
2. January 28, 2011 — April 29, 2011 — Semifinalists announced in May 2011
3. April 29, 2011 — June 24, 2011 — Semifinalists announced in July 2011

“The pilot won’t be finished by then, but I will be showing her a trailer of the pilot (using only completed shots, so the trailer should look complete) and the animation bible. I am looking for motion media help with the trailer, as well as a title sequence later for the pilot. We are in crunch time with the film right now, and will finish as many shots as possible. If anyone who’s working on it has a better idea for the graphical arrangement, I am definitely willing to compromise. The text right now is just a stand in (and a hideous one at that. lol) I am definitely looking for help with communicating the text better – whether or not it’s over a black screen or over the film. The music is part of the film’s original soundtrack, composed by Ryan McCullough. I have his permission to use it for the trailer and can provide the whole version of the song if needed.

Although the chances of Fate Saga getting picked up are slim (as is any series idea that’s being pitched), if it does get picked up then this could become a job opportunity. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!”

Just a reminder the first MOMELove Meeting of the quarter is Tuesday, January 18th at 8pm in Montgomery 311. The date was changed because of MLK day, but the rest of the meetings will be on every other Monday.

So we’ve been wanting to make MOMELove t-shirts, stickers. temporary tattoos, etc but we didn’t have the time or the money. WELL now that we are a Professional Student Organization we have the budget and since it’s Winter Break we all have to the time to play around with some designs. No cutting corners either: We want cool designs regardless of it it literally says “MOMELove” and we’re gonna get quality shirts, maybe American Apparel? So no specifications but try and limit t-shirt designs to only a few colors so we can still afford pizza

That way people can start voting on which ones they like via “liking” and then we can pick which ones to get printed out of the most “liked” at the first meeting next quarter!

This past Monday we had a short sweet meeting to have a little break in between all the madness of finals. Matt DeMarko, a senior film student, presented a little bit about his senior project “Greg Prime” that will be a free, online web series launching in the fall. They are looking for help from Motion Media students, so this is a perfect opportunity to get some extra work done early over the long break. http://gregprime.com/

Since we have such a long winter break, use the time as an opportunity to get your creative juices flowing without worrying about projects and due dates. We need to start some branding so in the next few weeks there will be a facebook page designated for creating MOME shirts, stickers, etc. We are also going to start a page about CoMotion to see what everyone would like to see, like speakers, panels, etc.

There is a lot going on next week and we just wanted to throw out some events that you should all take advantage of!!! Kick starting with an amazing Halloween hopefully!

FIRST: the Savannah Film Festival is going on from this Sunday Oct. 31 (ie HALLOWEEN) until next Sunday Nov. 7th. There are amazing films screening at almost all times, panels with some of our very own film professors like Professor Michael Jackson Chaney’s coffee talk every morning 8am (with free donuts) at the Marshall House, and lots of celebs in the area so go to the Starbucks on Broughton even if parking is more of a bitch. Many of the films are FREE for students or 5 bucks with an ID.

ALSO: Geekend is coming up this same week. Staring Thursday Nov. 4th until Saturday Nov. 6th. at the Coastal Georgia Center ie the big red brick building to the left of Turner House. Badge pick up is on Thurs. Again there are panels, speakers, etc going on around the clock-you even get deals and discounts at restaurants and bars around Savannah with your pass!!! Hopefully you took advantage of the free passes while they were available if not I would try to put together $40 for the discounted pass..I am not sure how much longer it is available tho so do it soon!! LASTLY:
The Leo Burnett Ad Agency (http://www.leoburnett.com/) is coming to SCAD to meet with MOME, GRDS, and ADVE students next Thursday and Friday Nov. 4th and 5th. The interviews/meetings are up to the department, faculty, and career service department which is out of our hands but they also want an opportunity to speak to a group of students, ie MOMELove (non-MOME majors welcome too!!).

Originally our very own Jeff ZImmerman (MOME graduate and CoMotion 2010 student producer) was going to bring us pizza and present to us on Friday Nov. 5th at 1:30pm at Monty. Being a hired success story Jeff wanted to express to our major and all majors alike what it’s like going from a Senior here at SCAD out into the Job Market. Unfortunately Jeff may not be able to make it because a project he is in charge of has been postponed till that same friday…
BUT the Creative Technology Director and Motion Graphics Director would still like to present to us in his place!!! They want to break down Ad Agencies in terms of different positions and job opportunities that you may not have considered before but most importantly they want to know what WE WANT TO HEAR ABOUT!! and there will still be pizza! So what do you want to know from one of the world’s most influential ad agencies? Do you have questions about the departments? The culture of the company? How client relationships work? Have you ever wondered what an account manager does? Well let us know.

Another MOME student Tanya has been in discussion with her summer internship employers DK Chicago and they are looking to do a skype-session with MOME as well. If it all works out that will happen immediately after Jeff’s presentation. We have yet to have this confirmed but if not Nov. 5th. it will be the following Friday, Nov. 12th.

In other words: BUSYBUSYBUSY.

The Senior II Class is having a showcase of their project the 9th week of the quarter and would like some help with branding. The theme is “Point A” is about the process of a project, working from start to end, and how reaching the end of a project will only lead to the beginning of another. You remember at our last meeting that Kate came and spoke about the Senior Film Soiree? Well incase you missed it she sent me the handout.

The handout provides a list of all the productions that were promoted at the Soiree, the Seniors’ names, their contact information, and what positions they’re looking to fill.

Since the event was so successful it will be repeated at the beginning of Winter Quarter.

After the huge success of CoMotion last year, people were wondering whether it would happen again this year or if Inspire would come back, but its been decided that both events will be happening together in the same weekend. As of now, Inspire will be a series of lectures on Friday, April 15th at the Trustees Theater, and CoMotion will take place the following day, Saturday, April 16th. Inspire will be put together by the faculty, but CoMotion will be put on by the students. Be thinking about speakers that you would like to see. We are hoping to have a variety of areas represented: Commercial, Fine Art, Graphic Design, and Sound Design.

We want MOME Love to become more involved and well known throughout the school. We are thinking about crashing another club’s meeting so if there are any in particular that you would like to go to, share your idea at the next meeting. Bring any other suggestions for any outside activities you would like the club to participate in our presentations you would want to see.

In case you missed the last meeting and were hoping to hear our newest professor, Austin Shaw, talk about himself, you’re in luck! He was unable to attend our last meeting so he will be joining us this Monday.

This upcoming meeting we will also be viewing submissions for the 5 second Primitives contest. Although the deadline for Nick Campbell’s contest was this past Sunday, you can bring your own animation to the meeting this Monday whether or not you submitted it online. Last night was the first of many fabulous meetings to come. There was not an empty seat in Monty 311. After the officers introduced themselves, a few students who had internships this summer shared some of their experiences and the value of real world experience whether it was at a local news station or a major production house.

Somehow we only have a few short weeks until the end of Spring Quarter! Where has the time gone? First of all I want to thank everyone that has been involved with MOMELove this year because we did some great things and it wouldn’t have happened without the support of our group! This year we did a lot: we gained valuable insight into some of our faculty members, we got to see great speakers like Lee Hunt and Doug Grimmett through the Inspire lecture series, hopefully many of us had beneficial encounters at the Career Fair (thanks to Professor Boortz for giving us a guide to be prepared properly), we got to interact more with other student clubs and departments like 16×9 and some graduate projects, and most of all we started a CoMotion!

We did a lot of big things this year and this club has the potential to do even more! Our last meeting of the school year is tomorrow, Tuesday, at 8pm room 311! We are going to have pizza and reflect on what we accomplished this year as well as goals for next year. Personally I see big things in MOMELove’s future and I hope you come out not only for the food but also for the officer elections. A lot of the students that made these big things happen this year would be great leaders in this club and if you think you can make things happen then run for office!
