Hey guys!
Last night was the first of many fabulous meetings to come. There was not an empty seat in Monty 311. After the officers introduced themselves, a few students who had internships this summer shared some of their experiences and the value of real world experience whether it was at a local news station or a major production house.
A few other things we talked about:
Geekend 2010! This year the conference is November 4-6. The student ticket price is only $60, which is extremely worth it because it is 3 full days packed with speakers. For more info, go to their website: http://geekend2010.com/
One Day on Earth! This is a great world-wide project documenting life on 10/10/10 all over the world. If your video is chosen to be part of the film you can win tickets to a regional premiere and a DVD of the final project. http://www.onedayonearth.org/
5-second Animation Contest! Last year we voted on the theme Squirrel and came back the next weekend with 5 second videos that had any connection to squirrels. Many of the past submissions are on the Vimeo Page: http://vimeo.com/groups/mome
Break into the Spotlight Bumper Contest! Contest for the Savannah Film Festival. All the information is located here http://www.sfdm.scad.edu/intranet/student/?p=1466
Make sure to come to the next meeting, Monday, October 4th at 8:00pm in Montgomery 311! Austin Shaw, our department’s newest professor, will be introducing himself and sharing some of his work. Don’t forget to bring any ideas for our 5 second animation contests because we will be picking a theme for our next contest with fabulous prizes, maybe even a Geekend pass!
