An audio book by any other name…

Here is an example of a well-timed, short-form presentation of a comic strip for viewing. We’re blending two disparate and demanding languages: sequential art and film/animation. So what makes something viewable? What makes something readable? Understanding the semiotics and characteristics of a given language and then playing with those rules and conventions can lead to new and exciting ideas.

Motion comics? I don’t like the term. Audio comics seems to fit better with this exercise. An audio book makes a promise that a book will be read to you. An audio comic makes that same promise. A motion comic promises what? A moving comic? Where’s the value in that? Isn’t all film “moving pictures”? How little motion is required for it to fit into the motion category? Wouldn’t it be better to categorize the experience around the experience, much like audio books does (another intermediate form)?
