February 2013

Recently, I stumbled upon an interesting blog with a focus on street art. I found the blog interesting because not only did it have pictures of stunning graffiti, but it also contained pictures of street art that I had never been exposed to before. The picture below, which contains a road sign which reads ” Caution! Zombies! Ahead!!!”, really stood out from the others due to its creativity and use in the real-world. I can only imagine how many people drove past that sign and actually thought that zombies were invading. The artist made other signs that contain equally as amusing messages such as “Run for cold climates”, “The end is near!!!”, and “Nazi Zombies! Run!!!”.

These are the patterns for the grid problem that I played with but did not end up using for my final piece.

I chose this design for playful because it reminds me of kids on a play ground playing games with different teams. The fact that there is no order or pattern in this design helps it seem more playful.

Please refer to the black square problem posts below for information on the quality of this photo.

I chose this design for the bold black square problem due to the fact that the large black square in the middle is almost as bold as you can get. The smaller circles on the outer corners help make the middle one stick out more. Please refer to the black square images below for information about the quality of this picture.

I chose this piece for increase because when first looking at it, you start at the small squares on the bottom and work you way up to the larger square on the top. Please refer to the other black square problem posts below for information on the quality of this photo.

I chose this design for tension because it reminded me of a shoot-off in the wild wild west. It looks as if the box on the upper left hand corner is shooting the box down below in the right corner.

Once again, I had to take a picture of my piece with a cell phone due to my lack of “tech-savyness”. A proper copy of the design will be uploaded shortly.

For some reason, my work that I did on the computer cannot be uploaded to a post due to “security reasons”. This is a picture of the computer taken with my cell phone. It is a little off due to the fact that I did not want the reflection of my head to show in the background.

As soon as I am able to figure out another way to do this I will upload the proper image.

Sorry for not being tech-savy, I’m learning…

I chose to re-do this piece because I thought it had the most potential. The original, which is posted below, seemed a bit boring to me and lacked “pahzazz”. There were no comments on my piece during class besides pointing out a few craftsmanship errors. I hope that you all enjoy this piece much more than the previous one.

I ended up using this pattern for my final piece. Looking back, I realize that perhaps there were some things I could have done differently that would have improved the piece. During class, a few of you commented that this piece was somewhat boring to look at. Another person suggested that I should have used the smaller squares instead of the larger ones. I agree completely, thank you for the constructive criticism.
