Map Project

Filed under: Uncategorized — Kaitlyn Smith @ 6:28 am

For this project we were asked to take an original map of our choice and completely dismantle and destroy it in any way we wanted. I chose to wrinkle my map, burn my map, put mud on my map, and put different shades of ink on my map. We then were asked to think of certain aspects we liked about what we did to those maps and recreate them through the use of either the same map or another map or both. We had no real limitations just to create something visually appealing through the use of a map or maps. Because I used mud and gold ink on my original map I continuously grasped the concept of something that occurs naturally but beautiful at the same time. I chose to make a paper mache mold of a flower through the use of map scraps and gold ink then I created the inside of the flower with map leaves. I also included ribbon to tie together the mache paper and incorporated it into my leaves as well.

Sound Map Project

Filed under: Uncategorized — Kaitlyn Smith @ 6:22 am

For the Sound Map Project we were asked to sit at any place of our choice for at least an hour and record the sounds we hear throughout that time as well as the location of the sounds in reference to where we are sitting. Then we were asked to creatively reinterpret the sounds we heard in any manner. I chose to sit at Starbucks while I worked on homework and I chose to reinterpret the sounds I heard through a poem.

ABC Project

For this project we were asked to find the letters of the alphabet as well as the numbers 1-9 naturally occurring in our everyday environments. I found this assignment to be pretty intriguing because it got us to focus our eyes on the unscene parts of our daily lives. These were my findings:

Jack & Jill

Filed under: Uncategorized — Kaitlyn Smith @ 6:09 am

For the Jack and Jill assignment we were paired in groups and asked to come up with individual alternative narratives to Jack and Jill and then as a group combine our stories to make a twisted version of Jack and Jill. My group came up with the story of two bears that were going up the hill to get “special” grapes that had the ability to make you see things. When they got to the top of the hill they realized the grapes were being guarded by a soldier at the top of a ladder. The bears knew they had to come up with a plan so they made a plan to plot a poisonous spider on the soldier. The plan worked for the two bears. One of the bears started to climb the ladder to get the special grapes but ends up tumbling down and hurting himself. His bear friend finds him a crutch to use and they end up eating the grapes finally where they also start seeing magical things.
