Hello Mundo (world)

My name is Jasmine Gilliam and I was born and raised in Spartanburg, SC. I am 21 years old and a transfer to SCAD. (Buzz…) It took me quite some time to figure out that SCAD is where I needed to be in this time right now, at this moment. All my life I have loved to dance, sing, being creative with any ideas, colors, and innovation. Growing up I wanted to be a fashion designer and at another time an interior designer. But for some reason I lost sight of those visions growing up. I thought I needed to have a serious (not as fun as your own creative ideas) career like everyone else. So I attended Anderson University to study Psychology and Spanish however, my plan was to eventually transfer to Clemson University. (my dream school) Oddly all my life I was involved in dance, chorus, band, and Girl Scouts. They were some kind of art form that I kept with me, but I was trying to be someone else that people would take more seriously. So as I told myself I could be a psychologist and have Spanish as a second language, I became bored…. I had fun singing in both choirs at my school and being on the dance team! But to accomplish my “real dream” I applied to Clemson University and got accepted. I cried I bought my Clemson attire and I was happy to know that I could accomplish more things. So I was later inspired to study for physical therapy. I thought hey” I want to be a doctor and prove to not only everyone else but myself too. So I took classes like Biology, Chemistry, Spanish, Math, etc…… do I need to say more. In those couple of years I had hit rock bottom at my dream school. I took summer course to be better for the classes I were re-taking and I still failed them! (BS!) Ultimately, I didn’t have the motivation to do the work. I never partied, just went home every weekend. So my moment came when I finally came to Savannah to visit my best friend at SCAD…. check out my next blog :)
