Ralph Lauren Internship

Posted in Uncategorized on October 24th, 2012 by Jeni Carmichael

I never had an interest in Ralph Lauren Internships because it is not my style, however it is such an established business, I decided to go. I learned some really good tips on how to get an internship and how motivated you have to be. I learned that I really need to make a web portfolio so that I can pass it on easily. I also learned that I need to expand my excel, word and power point skills. Just because we are marketing students, we still need to be able use our creative minds. Resume’s should not be too lengthy because they get boring so it needs to be just one page. Also, showing the graduation date is really important so that people know when you could potentially interview for a job.  Ralph Lauren offers college students an opportunity to be apart of the team. Some of there internships are paid and provide hands on exposure to the design division, including concept, illustration and product development. Some of the responsibilities include assisting the development process and the product design. Another key element in getting a good internship is writing thank you notes for the interview and the opportunity.

Sheer Clear

Spring 2013 is inspired by the oceanic worlds, transparent fibers and the way diffused light emulates the layers of the sea surface. Rippled knits and ruffles mimic the underwater world. Inspiration from labyrinthine coral and underwater sea creatures is found throughout.

Turquoise and teal are the spring colors. The oceanic palette brings attention to detail and dimensional forms. Derek Lam SS13 created an ocean wave look with casual pants with a faded dye look. The ripple effect creates a nautical effect.

The Net-A-Porter Magazine application has to be one of the best branded content on a mobile platform. This app lets users watch exclusive interviews and runway shoes, share products via social networks and allows customers to share feed back on their shopping experience. It is clear from the start that this branding is all about having a happy satisfied customer who will always be loyal. They are continuing to develop and expand this app. Everyone should check it out!

Milan Fashion Week Spring 2013 Trends

Posted in Uncategorized on October 7th, 2012 by Jeni Carmichael

The trends and inspirations seen throughout Milan’s fashion week this past month were very obvious. A lot of floral prints were seen in shows such as Blugirl and Just Cavilli. There were many water color floral designs on lightweight separates. There were also a few oriental styles. rich colorful silks and kimono style jackets carried the floral feel at a different level. Designers such as Etro and marni really represented that Japanese.

Another obvious trend was cold stripes. Dolce & gabbana, Fendi and Moschino sent models down the catwalk in very bold stipes and matching skirt ensembles. This seasons tones are all about the bright colors. A lot of Orange, Light blue and yellows are used.

Embroidered lace was seen in Gucci, Roberto Cavalli and Versaces collections. This involves key skills in presenting lace. These lace fitted dresses and embroidered gowns stunned the crowd. Cavalli produced embroidered lace trousers and blouses.

Milans Spring 2013 Fashion Week held exceptional designs and I a really excited to see these trends evolve next spring!

Experiencing the Little Black Dress Exhibit, by Andre Leon Talley, at our very own Scad MOA, is any Fashionistas dream come true. This exhibit represented uniqueness because there were not only dresses from the past, but also dresses from 2012. It had a very historical feel with a hint of modernism. Often when we hear “Little Black Dress,” we think of a literal “LBD.” However, the little black dress continues to evolve as fashion does. Fashion is it’s own language and is spoken in new ways everyday.

All of the different designs, fabrics, and aesthetics in this collection of dresses featured were so very different from one another. One of my favorite dresses was the 2006 wool Chanel dress.

We are so lucky to have experienced this collection of dresses right at our school. It is motivating to see what myself and my classmates can work up to in our careers.

J.Crew Vintage Touch

J. Crew is not always the biggest talk after fashion week, but some may  have missed their vintage vibe in the Fall 2012 RTW collection. Back in February J. Crew really grasped the vintage trend that was beginning to emerge.  Displaying vintage silhouettes in high quality fabrics they havecreated a sophisticated line revamped to fit into the contemporary world. J. Crew is known for creating many simple pieces that can go together when mixed and matched. Although their is no specific time period captured in this line. From tailored suits, to nordic sweaters to pencil skirts, this collection has everything you need for fall including the vintage touch.

Inspiration!

Hello! Inspiration is a very vague word. One can be inspired by almost anything in the world, or even out of this world. Inspiration can come from music, pictures, dreams, new ideas, technological advancements and anything else that one comes upon. I am personally inspired when I see two contrasting ideas. This is most likely the contrast between something natural and unnatural. For example: When I see something soft and natural like smoke combined with something hard and shaped like a straight line, I am inspired to created something edgy with a soft side. I often find my conceptual  ideas dealing with this inspiration. Whether it has to do with nature or man-made technological advances and installation art, I am inspired to make something creative. Everything is inspiring to me and makes my head think more creatively. I also get inspired by music. The simple sound of a voice or a rhythm can inspire how someone feels one day, and how they wanna dress one day. Fashion can be inspired by anything…..

Hello world!
