Will the Punk Style ever fade?

Posted in Uncategorized on November 12th, 2012 by Jeni Carmichael

The tough, punk spirit has become quite expressive. From heavy-duty metal hardware, spikes, to studs, everything is covered in this punk look. Recently I have noticed that although the spikes and studs are still in, it is getting more glamorous. Whether its a studded white blazer or spiked necklace, the fashionable look is still in and looks like it is sticking around.

This is the (un)official J.Crew Blog. I found this while searching for inspiring fashion blogs. This gives a glimpse behind the design: inspiration, style $musings at 770 (the home base for J.Crew. There is a section on who’s wearing what and how to wear it. It includes the name and sometimes price of each item. It has men and women’s fashion right down to how to fold a pocket square.

Another section is called Destination Inspiration. This talks about different styles in different locations. The great thing about this blog is that it includes a lot of photos, videos and interviews.

I recommend people follow this blog to get inspiration as well as cool ideas and concepts that are apart of fashion without having to do with the garments. Anything from the music behind the runway to your favorite accessories from the runway show, they have a lot to say.

Little Print, lots of repetition!

Posted in Uncategorized on November 5th, 2012 by Jeni Carmichael

I have noticed that prints are huge this upcoming spring/

summer season. Although prints are always used, this seasons particular prints are small and repetitive. There are prints such as reptile markings that hold some very subtle color as well as hints of citrus. Miniature dots are also very popular but have a very sophisticated look to them. Used in feminine suits and dresses, there effects carry a classic appeal. Some designers used evenly placed dots and some were irregular splotches. Diamond repetition brings a lot of energy to spring. There is a variety of colors as well as knitted versions and jacquard’s.  Flat geometric shapes from the 60′s and 70′s drive the vintage inspiration. Another shape used is the tile. Forming exotic mosaics or architectural  grilles, honey combs and hexagons are the new patterns suggested for spring. Last but not least, every season brings a garden. Packed floral are both illustrated and printed. This is my least favorite of the new prints because it is too busy. I am excited to see what this spring brings to us on the streets.

Market Segment Research

Fact: The U.S. Young Professionals population is expected to swell over the next 10 years, making it all the more important for businesses to understand how to connect with them.

One of the keys to making that connection lies in the online arena. As the first generation to have grown up with computers and cell phones, Young Professionals typically turn to the electronic landscape for information about products and services. As a result, businesses that embrace Internet marketing are in an excellent position to make inroads with this demographic

This age range is really quick to spend money. The 23-34 year old age group spends more per trip to the mall then any other age group. Research shows that this group is looking for unique shopping experiences. They don’t want to shop where their parents shop, nor do they want to buy from stores frequented by teens.

Why are they unique?

For 25-39 year olds, usage of the Internet is an integral part of their daily routine. They access it from work and at home to complete transactions, search, shop and more.  It’s a vital work and life tool.

Heavenly Horizon

Softly changing hues, in a diffused rainbow of colors, offer a dramatic but divine horizon. Sunset sights, together with ombré yarns and faded tie-dye, imbue knitwear with a beautiful dreaminess.
