sound experience

On a cold and windy day a few weeks ago, i made the wise decision to sit outside for an hour and listen to all the surrounding sounds. It was interesting and ingratiating  trying to keep up with all the noise. Mostly it was construction and birds as I was sitting in the museum courtyard. Sometimes I heard snippets of conversation but not much. All my findings are documented below in full detail.img004img005

To translate this I thought of the way sound looks on a computer and drew the noises that applied, some happened often and they appear more than once and the height represents how loud the noise was. the result just below.

My map memory

The map project. This was so much fun. After being instructed to find a map and destroy it in anyway we want I was excited. So I went to print out a map of a place called Block Island; a place where my grandparents have a house and we visit sometimes. So in order to destroy it I scrubbed it with a sponge, poured tea on it, set it on fire, stomped it out and put it under my door matt for a day. It held up well surprisingly. Then we were asked to take what we had done to it and use it as inspiration to make something new. The fire made me remember celebrating New Years Eve 1999 on Block Island. I have a specific memory of running around with sparklers at night and people were wearing masks. So I crossed the border, bought fireworks, came back here lit them, ran around and filmed it. The result’s are below.

During the critique the main complaint was the varying speeds in the film. Which I used for one, effect and two, to try to get the memory more across. Also if I had the entire film in slow mo and most of it was, it would have been a far longer. Which I can understand. Another issue take was brought up was the fact that my map was not present in the film. I didn’t want to put it into the film just for the sake of it being there. Admittedly i could have thought of some creative way to get it in, but I guess it just slipped my mind.

ABC easy as 1 2 3

So, for this next design class adventure we were tasked with the horror of leaving the safety of our dorm rooms and go out into the sunlight and find the letters of the alphabet and the letters 1 to 9. So I went and ambled around downtown and found when you see below. The 5 and the 9 were hard to find as 6 and p had already been used so I was running out of ideas at that point.

During the critique, I didn’t get that much feed back, besides the fact there was an obvious dent in the piece that happened on the bus on the way to class not 15 minutes prior, there wasn’t anything really wrong with it. People did think my G looked  more like a Q than anything. This project wasn’t anything to special or terrible. I thought it was boring and was exactly like something I did in high school.

#Jill&Jack

So one of my favorite in design is the interpretation of the classic story of “Jack and Jill.” Our task was to take a several shapes and figures. So my group made a rendition of Jack and Jill where they are teddy bears: Jack is an old fart but doesn’t want to admit it to himself, Jill is the young hot thing that likes older men. In our story he must climb the ladder or “the hill” to get the grapes or “pail of water.” He then fall off the ladder and “broke his crown” by this we met he lost all of his coolness so all his tattoos fell off. His crown was his ego in our version. Jill however did not come after him, as she found  new man, well teddy bear.

In the critique, we got a lot of positive feedback. Most like the story line, one person thought it sexist, which when explained made sense in way. We should’ve had a disclaimer that it wasn’t meant to be sexist. On a second look, it realized that is does look like Jill is pushing off Jack in the forth panel. Also the class didn’t really like the first panel because of the line we put under the two teddy bears, which i can understand doesn’t really fit. We didn’t know what do there, filling it black wouldn’t have worked and looked a little distracting. Oever all I was very happy with it.

Artists and the blogs

To being, one of my favoe ite artists of all time Annie Leibovitz. She is an amazing photographer who’s images are always super drama with an almost other worldly feel to them. Although she doesn’t have a blog, she is a editor at Vanity Fair and has shoot practically every cover of Vogue for the last 1- years. They are graceful and beautiful and so elabrate and I hope to be able to create something as beautiful as what she makes.

A blog that I like to get inspiration from is called The Chriselle Factory. It is a fashion blog run my a stylsit/ youtuber. Her style is amaizng and she looks like a model. Although some of the things that she wears is.. a little expensive, but it gives me inspiriation to find something similar. And sometimes she has DYI set up, which I love to do, as stated in my next paragraph. She has the wardrobe that I wish I had. Maybe one day. But till then I find inspriaton.

Another blog I like to read is a DYI beauty blog. I’ve always loved knowing how to make homemade beauty fixes. Even if I don’t need to use them or want to, I just love knowing how. How to get shinier hair, get rid of dark spots, pretty much anything. I just love to know the science behind it too. What vitiams are need to help this or promote that and keeps this part of you healthy. It’s also another way to know how to keep you healthy… in a way.

Repeative part 3

The poorly shot final product!

In the critique, it was said that the focal point was good, it keeps the eye moving but the craftman ship was… pretty bad. It was one of the main complaints of my piece. Which I guess it wasn’t the best but I didn’t it was too bad..

Repeative part 2

I accidently bought Illustration paper instead of illustration board… Go me

Repeative design in Design

For this project we were put to the task using one motif pattern and create a design. i tried to create something that looked like an arrow as the original pattern… Didn’t end up looking all that orginal.. Well I tried, and this is how it went down.

These are the design ideas…

Class works

For our lastest assignment we were put to the task of taking words and creating their meaning with blacka nd white squares.

These were my results.

In order from left to right on the top we have; bold, congestion and increase.

Then order, playful and tension.

Hopefully thst came across.

In Class Assignment

Our project was to create two designs; one to present isolation and one to represent concentration. Here’s what I came up with.

This is concentration.

And this is Isolation.
