alexander wang hitting up in our very own hong kong cee-tee. all the commotion to celebrate the new alexander wang joyce store over at tst harbour city. the night sums up to squeezing in and out of the crazy pack, chatting up to what seems like the whole of hong kong ( literally everyone was there…), messing around with densie to get a good picture with wang, and wanting to clear the racks of amazing clothes clean from the store. would kill for this. was wearing the obvious option of my alexander wang draped dress.  layered with a muscle tee underneath to tone it down and to make things more ‘me’. if it wasn’t already. love almost everything he creates. even his hair and smile is perfect. never enough of some alexander wang.

ABOUT ALEXANDER WANG

Alexander Wang (born 1983) is an American fashion designer.

At age 18, he moved to NYC to attend Parsons The New School for Design to study fashion design. After dropping out in his sophomore year, he launched his first women’s ready-to-wear collection in 2007. The label embodies casually cool downtown style, drawing inspiration from the nineties, French chic, and rock grunge—always finished off with a slouchy, rolled-out-of-bed edge. Wang launched a diffusion line of pre-weathered cotton tees, tanks, and T-shirt dresses in spring 2009, T by Alexander Wang, as well as a footwear collection of towering platform sandals. He won the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in 2008, an honor accompanied by a $200,000 award to expand one’s business.

Wang is known for his edgy, somewhat masculine womenswear designs. After designing a Fall 2008 collection using black as the predominant color, he designed his Spring 2009 collection using bright colors such as orange, dusty purple, aqua and hot pink, and proclaimed, “They wanted color, they got color!”. Although he reverted to using mainly black fabrics, he was praised for showing great tailoring skills.

lots of girls love men’s clothing- as if you haven’t known yet after our never ending repetition of the point… the advantage of getting boys’ clothes are those slightly oversized fit and the little extra baggyness features which make almost every look so effortless… and j.w anderson is probably one of our latest love. his designs really shadows a great deal of nicolas ghesquiere’s design aesthetic but in a very… british, delicate and non-futuristic way. love the cut of this vest and it just goes so well with a simple top and black jeans.

GOOD basic pieces. in love with everything about this grey top from the thirtieth anniversary archive collection from atsuro tayama. the extra lengthened long sleeves and asymmetric detailing is just perfect. paired here with a faded wash striped boyfriend jeans that i will be living in for the rest of the coming weeks. sometimes simple casual is just the bigger and better option to go. less is more – definitely.

don’t know when fun fashion became an elaborate hoax. but, it’s good to dip into it once in a while. almost like a fashion retreat where comfort plays first. devoured to this ashish x lulu&co tee and what better but to pair it with a military ruffled mullet. almost like channeling the junya without the theatricals. much more wearable. fully convinced that a good quality statement skirt like this one from atsuro tayama is needed.

other than the obvious black, white, grey and anything on the lines of those monotones, any shade from navy greens and blues are her definite next go to palette option. this skirt from thakoon addition is the perfect marriage of feminine flare with military edge.

Phillip Lim has made a lot of noise in Hong Kong lately! They have launched their first pop-up store in Asia and lucky for us, it is right in the heart of Wing Fung Street. The space will be open for only 10 months though, so be sure to stop by! Designed by Jonathan Beck, there will be four stages for everyone to enjoy! MAY will hold their Holiday/Resort collection that will only be available at the pop-up.

WHAT IS STREET FASHION?

Instead of having been styled by models on Parisian runways and designers standing in front of boards of directors, street fashion is said to have emerged from the streets. It has what is said to be grassroots in the youth culture of the most recent decade. Street fashion is not specific to one type of dressing, but instead covers a host of different styles, all unique in the fact that they were created and styled by the young people who favor them.

It is this style that has begun to influence the creators of high fashion. The tight-fitted jeans once favored only by those wearing the street fashion known as punk now are a common element in high fashion designer wear. Similarly, the hippie, loose-flowing dresses with filmy material are being redirected in the fashion set in a more demure, focused innocence.

Hip hop fashion, with its origins in street fashion, has now translated itself into a multi-billion dollar industry. While now considered an iconic style, it still continues to be a statement of the music culture from which it originated. Hip hop street clothing emerged from the African American urban movement and filtered into the music industry and was worn by many well-known recognized athletes.

Big-name designers have incorporated this fashion into their design lines. Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, and Calvin Klein, among a host others, feature distinctly street fashion trends in their designs. These designers, along with others, have brought the style to another level by allowing it to influence dress and formal wear.

Japanese street fasion is largely influenced by the street fashion wear found in the United States. Though most of their clothing labels are produced within Japan, they are strongly influenced by trends seen abroad. Japanese fashion is dictated by the underground club scene attended by many young people. Japan’s street fashions have to credit many looks to the hip hop culture.

This statement is made many times by the clothes chosen to be worn by any given generation. Every decade, which produces a new crop of youth, has a markedly notable street fashion uniquely generated by it.

What is Fashion?

Fashion refers to a distinctive and often habitual trend in the style with which a person dresses, as well as to prevailing styles in behaviour. Fashion also refers to the newest creations of textile designers. The more technical term,costume, has become so linked to the term “fashion” that the use of the former has been relegated to special senses like fancy dress or masquerade wear, while “fashion” means clothing more generally and the study of it. Although aspects of fashion can be feminine or masculine, some trends are androgynous.
