Siggraph Space-Time Competition April 30, 2008

Siggraph Space-Time Competition and Exhibition-Admission Deadline May 15

The Space-Time competition is an international juried exhibition for students currently enrolled in school who are working in computer graphics and digital arts. The exhibition captures the state of creative computer-based student work and acts as an annual slice of the computer graphics continuum. Primary, secondary, and college or university students are encouraged to apply and the submissions will be handled separately.

All accepted artwork and projects will be on exhibit at the Siggraph Conference. They will also tour nationally and internationally for a year with the Space-Time Traveling Student Exhibition.

There are three areas of work accepted.  They are, Print, Linear Animation, and Interactive Works.

The submissions are done online at, https://sis.siggraph.org/cgi-bin/SIS_SSL.py
You need to create a login to submit work. Once you have done that you can pick the submission form from a list.

Adobe Design Achievement Awards Contest April 30, 2008

Adobe Design Achievement Awards Contest is open to all full time students. Projects must be original works completed 50% or more with Adobe software. You can enter in 12 categories in 3 media areas.

You can enter film titles, television station identity designs, public service announcements, and other motion design projects that animate still images and moving type to convey a message.

Check out the website, http://www.adaaentry.com. To enter your work, you need to create a digital version to upload on the competition site by May 2, 2008, at 5 pm.You also must upload a student id.

If your work is selected you will be required to send a cd/dvd high resolution version of the piece.

Publishing Opportunity for graduate students! April 30, 2008

Professor Cabrera has been approached by Focal Press to create a book entitled How to Cheat in Maya. Payment is possible! She is looking for picture based tutorials for tips and tricks dealing with all aspects of the software. Tutorials must be original ideas and works presented by the student. If interested and for more details, please email her with your submission ideas and tutorial topic(s) at ccabrera@scad.edu . A great opportunity to become published!

The Digital Media Club Presents: Chrome Ball HDRI April 30, 2008

The Digital Media Club will be giving a presentation friday May 9th/ 2-4pm.

The lecture will take place in Montgomery Hall in Rm 221.

Professor Kirt Witte will be giving a 1 hour lecture on how to shoot and implement an HDR Chrome Ball. Following the lecture, there will be a Q&A session. Students can ask questions or bring in thier own work to include HDRI in their project.

$1 Million Intel Make Something Unreal Contest April 24, 2008

The ultimate modification competition brought to you by Intel and Epic Games.

“This contest is for all kinds of creatively talented people including programmers, artists, 3D modelers, designers and even aspiring film directors.”

To participate you create modifications (“mods”) for the PC version of Unreal Tournament 3 in a wide range of categories including environments, characters, weapons, gameplay, tools, vehicles and more. There are 21 Different Categories judged upon.

Through the contest, players can unleash their creative skills, make new content and game experiences using cutting-edge game technology, and reap rewards on many different levels. The content created for this contest will be freely available to players of the PC version of Unreal Tournament 3 worldwide.

The contest will be conducted in four consecutive phases. The closing date for submissions for Phase 1 is June 27, 2008. The closing date for submissions for Phase 2 is October 17, 2008. The closing dates for submissions for Phase 3 shall be May 15, 2009 and the closing date for submissions for Phase 4 shall be August 31, 2009. Winners will be announced on the official contest web site (http://www.makesomethingunreal.com).
