1. Helen Marshall - September 8, 2009

Dear Professor Lambin: I am the President of The Savannah Area Council of Garden Clubs,Inc. and our headquarters are in the 1840’s vernacular farmhouse on Eisenhower Drive next to Hospice/ which was moved from Wheaton St in the early 90’s to make way for the Truman Parkway. I held a meeting today in the house and we are in need of replicating and replacing the rotten columns and gingerbread trim and bannisters on the front porch of the farmhouse. As a former art teacher and house museum director I have first hand knowledge of the wonderful work SCAD students do in restoration work. This house needs students to research the family who built it, tell the story of early 1840’s farm life in Savannah, search in old maps, devise an interpretive analysis of the interiors, suggest furniture to display for museum like settings, interpret the gardens of the period…and on and on. We welcome and encourage your students to visit us and put together a plan for us.If this is something your students and those of other professors might be interested in, please call me 658-3209. We are ready to get bids on the work but want you to have a “crack at it!” Thank you for your interest. Helen Marshall
