SCAD has been a leader in preservation education and a model for other institutions to study since it was established 35 years ago. As the most comprehensive art and design institution of higher education in the world SCAD’s rich, diverse curriculum and faculty expertise and state-of-the-art facilities are available for historic preservation students to explore unique collaborative experiences.
Today, the discipline recognizes a fundamental shift in the purpose of preservation. Urban heritage evolution encompasses global themes reflecting cultural and heritage transitions that require the next generation of preservationists to be stewards, planners and visionaries. Historic preservation professors and faculty representing other departments in the School of Building Arts possess a broad range of qualifications, areas of expertise and professional affiliations. Their collective experiences provide students the opportunity to learn from individuals well qualified to address the diverse historic preservation curriculum and explore related interests.
