US/ICOMOS

The 2012-2013 academic year kicked off with an exciting announcement — SCAD will host the 16th Annual US/ICOMOS International Symposium, May 2-4, 2013.

ICOMOS is the International Council on Monuments and Sites, a global non-governmental organization that works to conserve and protect cultural resources around the world, and the United States National Committee of ICOMOS is one of many such chapter members.

The theme of the 2013 Symposium is “The Historic Center and the Next City: Envisioning Urban Heritage Evolution.”  This topic will inspire presentations and stir conversations among professionals in preservation, conservation, urban planning, economics… the list goes on.  Students, faculty, and alumni should consider joining the many other professionals who have already submitted proposals for paper or poster presentations.  For more information about the symposium, visit the US/ICOMOS website here:  http://www.usicomos.org/symposium  or jump right to the call for abstracts here:  http://www.usicomos.org/files/USICOMOS%202013%20Symposium%20Call%20for%20Abstracts.pdf

We hope to see your proposal soon!  Deadline for submission is November 15, 2013.

US/ICOMOS Director, Dr. Don Jones, visited the historic preservation department and spoke to students and faculty at the SCAD Museum of Art in January 2012.  (If you missed him, you can watch Dr. Jones’ lecture through SCAD’s virtual lecture hall here:  https://blog.scad.edu/scadglobal/2012/01/12/donald-g-jones-ph-d/ )
