This weekend is Congregations in Service, an annual event at which churches and synagogues throughout the community work together on various charitable activities. This year is the first time that the Jewish community is part of it and they would love Hillel student to join in. There are a number of projects, some requiring physical activity, others to be performed sitting at Mickve Israel. These are the options:
For those who prefer to remain at Mickve Israel, there are 3 options:
– Pillowcases - An arts and crafts project to decorate pillowcases for children at Greenbriar Children’s Center.
–Children’s books - Gently used books are being collected for distribution to children served by the Backpack Buddies’ program. They will need to be sorted, catalogued, and organized.
–Creating greeting cards (for holiday wishes, or other well-wishing) for the family members at Ronald McDonald House. Art supplies will be on hand, no special art skills are necessary. This is a newly introduced project, which would be very beneficial to the R.M. House.
Outdoor projects include:
– Union Mission Gardening - Landscaping, planting, yard work around the exterior of the site.
– Bacon Park Trail- Clearing of newly developed walking-trail area.
People will meet at Mickve Israel on Sunday 11/1 at 12:30 for a light pizza lunch and brief interfaith prayer, joined by members of the Christian and Muslim communities. We will then divide up into groups, some heading out to project sites, others, working at Mickve Israel. Transportation will be provided for anyone who needs it.
