Comparative Analogies

Comparative Analogies

Over the course of the last few quarters, I’ve had several students ask the difference between web and print as design tools. My answer is that, generally, the basics are the same:

Essentially, good design is good design whether it is using pixel or page.

Usually, these quick answers hold my students at bay long enough for them to experience the difference for themselves.

Making my job slightly easier, CSS Tricks has recently posted an article that further explains this comparison. That nifty little article can be found here.

Work by Bob Newman, John Waters exhibited at Indigo Sky Gallery
Artists ruminate on verbal and visual representation

In “Words Implied/Words Denied,” an exhibit on display at Indigo Sky Gallery, Newman joins forces with fellow SCAD graphic design professor John Waters to ruminate on the nature of verbal and visual representation.

“The quality of the work in this particular exhibit is really superior,” said Jerome Meadows, Indigo Sky’s gallery director. “Bob and John’s work does mesh together so well. I like the idea of graphic designers offering a different take on visual communication.”
