Thailand & Cambodia

Professors Jessica Smith and Susan Falls will lead an off-campus program to Thailand and Cambodia this winter break.

  • First interest meeting is September 19th.
  • Applications are due October 10th.
  • Trip runs November 29-December 13th.

Ethnography of Artisan Production: Thailand and Cambodia
In this interdisciplinary course, students will learn and practice ethnographic methods from the discipline of anthropology and then apply those methods in analyzing transnational artisan partnerships. This special off-campus program will be conducted in Thailand and Cambodia with the purpose of teaching students about the historical and cultural context of Thai and Khmer society as it has informed artisan design and production. Working with people from Cambodia will help students gain a more realistic understanding of the processes of globalization and the role of artisan production within the global marketplace.
Contact professor Susan Falls or professor Jessica Smith for more information.
