CFDA Book hails SCAD fashion professor Jason Bunin February 23, 2012

Posted by SCAD Fashion Department in : Design Resources , comments closed

SCAD fashion professor Jason Bunin has been featured in the recently published book, “IMPACT: 50 Years of the CFDA,” a landmark celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Bunin joins such legendary fashion icons Diane Von Furstenberg, Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan and Calvin Klein in the book.

“I am thrilled to be included in this book and to be among such esteemed company,” said Professor Bunin. “The CFDA is comprised of many of our country’s most important names in the industry. To be in the same publication as them is an extraordinary honor. It is extremely gratifying to know that I have made a lasting impact on American fashion.”

An acclaimed menswear designer
Prior to his career teaching fashion at SCAD Atlanta, Bunin was an acclaimed menswear designer. He was nominated for the prestigious CFDA Perry Ellis Menswear Designer of the Year Award and won the Fashion Group International Rising Star Award for Menswear Designer of the Year Award.

“IMPACT” explores the careers of America’s most influential designers over the last five decades. In the book, American’s most illustrious designers recount some of their personal contributions to the industry of fashion and reflect on the concept of fashion as a whole – what it means, how it lives, breathes and adapts, while always remaining current.

Introduced new details
Bunin is described in the book as “Menswear’s best-kept secret.” The passage goes on to say, “When he first launched his collection, menswear had become a sea of khaki, navy and gray. Bunin ushered in a new era of expression….Jason designs clothes that incorporate unique details, luxurious fabrics, and some of the strongest color stories in the market. In 1999 no other menswear designers were creating clothes with treatments that each man could personalize and make his own. Jason brought in such fresh details…Commonplace today. Not so then.”

“Being included in this book did not come easily,” Bunin said. “It took years of hard work, listening, struggling and finding my own way. I hope that I can instill the same drive in my students to become our future leaders in fashion.”

“IMPACT: 50 Years of the CFDA” (Abrams Books, 2012) is available where books are sold.
