CFDA Teams Up With Vitamin Water April 11, 2011

The CFDA and Vitamin Water have recently launched a competition to find the next great fashion designer.  The winner of their recently launched t-shirt design contest will get to see their designs hanging alongside other great talents in the American fashion industry and will win a $5000 grant to help launch their fashion career!

Additionally the 10 finalists will be flown with a guest to New York during fashion week and given tickets to select shows and events.   Finalists also get a get a meet & greet with members of the style council and select CFDA designers!

Career Fair – April 8! March 29, 2011

The annual SCAD Career Fair is happening NEXT week at the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center, 1 International Drive, Savannah, Georgia.   In addition to meeting with the numerous companies who will be present this year, you will have the opportunity to attend various workshops on topics ranging from “how to make the most of your internship” to “how to land a job on a movie set.”

If you are unable to make it to this year’s Career Fair, be sure to register on College Central.  College Central is a database with hundreds of companies looking to hire SCAD students for internships, freelance, part-time and full-time jobs across the country!

  2. Create an account by registering with your SCAD email address

Styling Internship March 28, 2011

Hey Students!

Simon Fashion Now is happening this week at Lenox Mall and L.A. based stylist Ali Kahn is looking for interns to help her out with pulling, prepping, and organizing the clothing for the shows. Interns will walk away not only knowing more about the industry, but will walk away with both a wonderful experience, as well as meeting a handful of influential people.

They are in need of positive and outgoing students to intern for the dates of March 29-April 2 of 2011. The Simon Fashion Now fashion show is being held at Lenox Square in Atlanta, Georgia. Ali Kahn and her styling assistant Jess Martinez are looking for:

They would prefer that the interns be there for the entire day, which is tentativly set to begin at 9AM and will continue for 8 hours with a 1 hour lunch. They are aware of conflicting schedules with school and/or work, so if you need need to split up your day with another stylist, that would be perfectly fine. With that being said, interns may be allowed to work in shifts if need be.

Uniform Design Competition March 2, 2011

The SCAD Fashion Department recently launched a project in conjunction with UNICEF and OrtaBlu to design uniforms for school children in Africa.

“The average weekly income in Sierra Leone is 7.00 USD. The average price for a school uniforms is 10.00 USD. Many parents don’t send their children to school because the cannot afford to buy them a school uniform.”  OrtaBlu, SCAD, and UNICEF hope to address this problem through YOUR uniform designs!!

The deadline for entry is March 11 and this competition is open to all SCAD students.   If you would like to learn more about the competition, visit the OrtaBlu website.

The winner of the competition will win a one week trip to Turkey to visit the main operations of Orta, the company working to develop uniforms for children whose parents cannot afford to buy them.   Second Prize is a $700 scholarship, Third Prize is a $500 scholarship.

Designers can work in teams of two or three students.  The judges are from UNICEF, VALENTINO, TEEN VOGUE, GQ Magazine Italy among others!   If you would like to participate, please register online and email Doris Treptow (if you are a student in Savannah) or Tiffany Horton (if you are a student in Atlanta) to confirm you participation.

Professor Filis Hagi-Zaid’s fashion illustrations are being featured in a solo-exhibition “Illustrate My World” this month at The Art Place in East Cobb (3330 Sandy Plains Road, Marietta, GA‎).   Her work will be shown until February 25 – so don’t miss it!

10 DESIGNERS. 20 DESIGNS. 1 COMPETITION FOR AN AMAZING CAUSE.

SCAD Students Win at the Waldorf! January 19, 2011

Last week, Fashion students from SCAD’s Savannah and Atlanta campuses traveled to New York to an awards dinner at the Waldorf Astoria for the YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund.   Savannah Senior Marlow Larson was awarded a $10,000 scholarship and photographed by Bill Cunningham of the New York Times.  Marlow was joined by fellow winners Erin Goodman, Sarah Butler, Victoria Cullinan Strayhorn, Karly Hankin and Logan Treacy.  Congratulations to all of you!

Operation Dream Dress 2010 is a great fashion design contest for any SCAD students or alumni interested in bridal wear to submit their sketch designs. The winner will receive a $10,000 cash prize and their winning design will appear on the cover of BRIDES magazine!
