Super June 9, 2010

Posted by scollins in : Design Resources, Inspiration, Museums and Exhibitions , trackback

I know that at some point you wanted to be a super hero, or at least have super powers.  I spent many hours of my youth spinning in circles and wearing tinfoil deflector bracelets pretending to be Wonder Woman.  Unfortunately, I never grew tall enough nor was I, um, as well blessed as Wonder Woman but the dream still lives on.

Fortunately, I now have a new place to go to fufill my super-hero dreams: The Brooklyn Superhero Supply Co.  They have everything from capes to secret identities to lairs to a whole section on robotics/cybernetics/mutations.

If you are wondering what my obsession has to do with Fashion, know that I am not alone in my fascination. The Met had an exhibition on Superheros in 2008 featuring both costumes and fashion.

Even many of the trends forecasts like WGSN’s Sonar-Sensory trend has a Superhero vibe to it.

Remember inspiration can come from anywhere, even comic books and superheros/villains.  So strap on your particle guns or vapor blasters and make this Summer super (sorry, had to do it).
